I think you'll be pleased. We stayed at AKL in April and at CBR two weeks ago. We liked CBR and it was nice to try something different, we had a wonderful trip. But DH summed it up by saying that it (CBR) was the equivelant of a motel and that we should stick to deluxes from here on out.
AKL was a fabulous hotel, just the overall theme was fantastic!! We had a savannah room, but when I was doing my research I often read people saying that unless you were going to spend A LOT of time in your room veiwing the animals - you could view them from the public viewing areas. The only time DH & I spent a lot of time on the balcony was when DS (then 14 months old) was sleeping. We loved the lobby, the decor, the art, the music they played, just everything!!
At CBR, you had a large food court, which even during the slow time was somewhat crowded and if you wanted a meal (other than pizza) in your room you had to walk it back yourself or wait for the internal bus. It's doable (I did it several times!) But DH likes his food piping hot - that's not possible. We ate at Shutters, it was good, but I didn't have the buring urge to go back again.
At AKL you have room service and two very good resturants. IMO Jiko was excellent - after that meal I had the burning urge to go back & try it again! When we were there, Mara (the quick serve food place) was never overly crowded.
I guess just point for point (ie - buses, decor, food, atmosphere, etc) AKL was better than CBR (to us anyway).
We had a good time at CBR, but an EXCELLENT time at AKL!
