after seeing the new codes, my mom and i couldn't resist switching to AKL. (standard room) we have stayed at CBR before, so although we are nervous we decided to take a chance with AKL. we figured how could we go wrong getting a deluxe at such a great price. did we do the right thing??? i've done so much research on CBR, and now it seems i have to start all over with akl. our trip is in may.

you will LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this resort. We did so much that we are bringing our whole family this December. I don't think I will stay anywhere else from now on!!!!

I agree with kdibattista, now that we have stayed at AKL we will not stay anywhere else, it is that amazing!!! Have a great time, I am so jealous:D

Hi there...

I think you made the right choice - it is fun to try something new =)

Hi,

I am assuming you are paying around $160 a night including tax for your standard view room at the AKL in May? We love the AKL and just returned on Feb 6th from our thrid stay since it opened in April of 2001. I would not spend $160 a night to stay in a standard view room at the AKL. There are many places around the resort to view the animals but even though we love the AKL we would not pay this price for a standard view room.

I believe people are getting the moderates for about $115 including tax with this new code based on what I have read. If we had to choose between the two I would go with POFQ or CBR.

I think you'll be pleased. We stayed at AKL in April and at CBR two weeks ago. We liked CBR and it was nice to try something different, we had a wonderful trip. But DH summed it up by saying that it (CBR) was the equivelant of a motel and that we should stick to deluxes from here on out.

AKL was a fabulous hotel, just the overall theme was fantastic!! We had a savannah room, but when I was doing my research I often read people saying that unless you were going to spend A LOT of time in your room veiwing the animals - you could view them from the public viewing areas. The only time DH & I spent a lot of time on the balcony was when DS (then 14 months old) was sleeping. We loved the lobby, the decor, the art, the music they played, just everything!!

At CBR, you had a large food court, which even during the slow time was somewhat crowded and if you wanted a meal (other than pizza) in your room you had to walk it back yourself or wait for the internal bus. It's doable (I did it several times!) But DH likes his food piping hot - that's not possible. We ate at Shutters, it was good, but I didn't have the buring urge to go back again.

At AKL you have room service and two very good resturants. IMO Jiko was excellent - after that meal I had the burning urge to go back & try it again! When we were there, Mara (the quick serve food place) was never overly crowded.

I guess just point for point (ie - buses, decor, food, atmosphere, etc) AKL was better than CBR (to us anyway).

We had a good time at CBR, but an EXCELLENT time at AKL!

I've stayed at both & would definetly go back to AKL. We liked it very much.
