I just got off the phone with MS. When I asked about the DP she told me I should book my stay now in segments and add the DP at 48 hrs to a segment. When I explained that I wasn't sure if my older DD would be joining us yet and didn't want the DP till I knew for sure she said to call and do the segments as soon as possible. When I asked if it was possible I could lose my reservation she said yes:scared1: I thought that they had done something that would allow you to keep your reservation until the changes had been made. Now I'm not sure I'm willing to risk losing my ressie after making sure I called at exactly the 11 months and everyday thereafter to ensure my 12 night stay.

Anyone else heard there is a risk to losing your reservation when adding the DP to portions only?

I just completed my 7 month switch to AKV and BCV last week. 6 nights at both. MS told me that they noted that I was on DDP for my original 12 night stay at SSR but because I had made changes I could either add the DDP now and pay or add it prior to the 48 hour mark and pay then.

When I asked about only adding it to portions of my reservations, MS told me that if I only add it to a portion, the longer I wait to do that the better the odds of losing my reservations as they would have to rebook and there could be a possibility of no availability :scared1:

I then asked if there is going to be a problem if I call just prior to the 48 hour deadline to add the DDP to the whole reservation (or to each segment) and was told that would not be a problem.

I patiently waited to have this particular 7 month switch so unless this is fixed, I will not risk portioning out the DDP.

I do not see why you cannot book in segments now and call later to add DDP to each segment. But then I've never tried to book this way. Do they really have to cancel each segment and rebook it to add DDP to it?

See if you can book the segments now and then add your daughter and DDP to the relevant segments later.

Well I just segmented my March '11 trip to have the option of adding the dining plan. Called MS again today to see if there was any availablity for my room type for the dates I had already booked. There was plenty so I went ahead without fear of losing out on what I wanted. As for my Oct'11 trip which I just booked I will talk to DH when he gets home to see how he wants to segment this trip. We were hoping at 7 month to book a few days at VB along with our OKW. There might be a few changes to this plan with DD's possible arrival and the split stay so I think I will just wait a while on this one. I should have a better idea of what we want by the 7 month mark.

Segments or split stays as they were called a month ago hasn't changed. We did this often because we don't like the DDP for our entire stay. It doesn't matter if you stay at the same resort for each segment of move to another resort, each requires a separate booking. If you stay at the same resort, there is a chance that you might have to change rooms. I confirmed this again last week with MS. The only difference now is that you pay for the DDP when added and you will be given an itinerary number which includes all of your reservations during your vacation.

MS Advisers still can't hold inventory so there is a risk if you change reservations.

The only time you can not do your origonal booking in segments is right at 11 or 7 months since you can only book your 7 or 11 month resevation out to the lenght of the first segment (or up to 7 days in one segment).

With my 3 segment stay at OKW is was assured I would be staying in the same room but will have to check in for each segment. I didn't add the DP yet as I don't want to have my money sitting in Disney's bank account rather than mine;) I can add it 48 hrs before I check in so this is what I plan to do.

Interesting. Not the answer I received.

According to a written email that I just received from Member Services - this change was not supposed to be business as usual at all. It was supposed to be a change to the old way. That was definitely their intent. They thought that they had the system in place to do segments (partial DDPs at the same resort) and NOT have to move - immediately when they released the new system.

They found out they were wrong. IT quickly discovered that without the resort hotels being online with the new system what was happening was that the front desks were seeing multiple separate reservations coming in - instead of linked partial DDP. They were coming in not linked to the resorts but clearly linked into one with MS.

Someone is getting coal in their stocking in the IT department. :rotfl2:;)

His conclusions were:

For reservations arriving before 2011 - you will take the chance of having to move. There is no way around that.

Any reservation booked for next year - will NOT have to move if they are at the same resort with multiple DDP choices/segmented stays. Their intent to offer this new choice will work because as of that date the new computer systems will be used at the resorts.

I think Disney has finally caught on that many (myself include) will stay for a extended time but won't pay the high cost of DP for the whole stay. I was today assured I would not have to move rooms but will have to re check in.

This option of adding it to a segment of your stay works for us. I had ADR's for the Friday and Sunday of my 8 days which I intended to pay OOP however with the DP option now I added a night in the middle which we would have eaten either in the Villa or off-site, plus I will purchase food in the parks that I had not intended to on my park days. This is a way of Disney getting more of DVC members $$ IMO.

Hi,
I have a 5 night BCV ressie for April 2011. I wanted to do Deluxe DDP for the 1st 3 nights then regular DDP for last 2 nights.

Can I call and change this without losing my DVC room???....(I have regular DDP for all 5 nights now)
Thanks
kerri

Anyone know if you can book the DDP for just part of your group. There are 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 children. One of the children is 10 and certainly will not eat his share of the dinning plan. Can you pay oop for one?

Everyone (ages 3 and up) listed on the reservation must be on the dining plan.

I thought this was supposed to change with the new system...bummer.

What's changing is that you can segment your stay so that you can either get a different plan (or no plan) for each segment. Everyone in the room still has to be on the plan.

Guess I will be using my TIW card more heavily now. No more dinning plan for this family:sad2:

I just booked a reservation for next October. We are going 5 nights, and we wanted a 3 night segment followed by a 2 night segment (we wanted to add DDP later on but wanted the segments in place). When I asked to do it in segments, the first MS didn't really understand what I wanted to do. I called again and the next MS said he could do it, and proceeded to book the reservation, but then gave me 2 different reservation confirmation numbers. He said that they book 2 separate reservations and link them so you don't have to switch rooms. I already have a reservation that is done in "segments" and it only has one reservation number, but 2 parts to it, so I knew this wasn't it as well.

I checked my reservation on the DVC website, and called MS again. I explained that I have one reservation already booked the way I had intended, and that the one I just booked was put into 2 different reservations instead of just one. She understood what I was talking about and got a supervisor to change my new October reservation to 1 reservation number (they call it a travel plan now) with the 2 segments. So it's now correct.

I think that they are really just learning the new system. I had to call 3 times to get someone who sort of understood what I was talking about. I hope they get this all squared away soon!
