POR is gorgeous. The main area is really well done and the food court was really nice. The rooms were great, and we weren't far from much at all. We did not see much trash (which I had heard about before). The ducks were VERY VERY friendly. The room was clean, and the Mousekeeping was pretty good, although one day it was subpar. No little fancy animals, but a couple of decorative things like a washcloth toothbrush holder.

Guest Services was very nice, and all of the bellboys were very helpful and quick response.

The main pool was just so so. Even though it was open 24 hours, the slide was closed. They told you to take your room towels to the quiet pools, but the main one was supposed to have towels. Well, when the slide is closed, they have no towels either. Uh Oh. The trellis under the slide is also still up. So that took away from it. The quiet pool near us was VERY nice, and we preferred that.

The bus service was excellent with the exception of the last day we were there. That was the only time we had to wait more than 5 - 10 minutes for a bus. We always had at least one seat for me to sit with my 3 year old in our lap, and usually had enough for all of us to sit down. We never had a bus pass us by, or fill up before we could get on it. The longest wait to get a bus back was around 15 minutes one e-night and that was around 12:45.

We rode the boat back from DTD once. That was VERY nice.

Overall we really liked the resort. However, if we had to choose between the ones we have stayed at, we would probably return to FQ. Why? No particular reason, but we just liked it better. I can't think of any one reason to choose it over Riverside.

Although we've never stayed at Port Orleans Riverside, we've stayed twice at Port Orleans and we love that hotel!! The kids love the slide and the resort is small enough to have that quaint feeling. I guess it really has that "homey" feel to us - we live right outside New Orleans!!

did you stay in the bayou or manor? Any suggestion as to a great building? We have standard ressies but would like something with a garden view.
Thanks

We stayed in the Bayou in Building 27. It was pretty centrally located. We went by the mansions though and they were really pretty as well.

Building 27 has no views of the parking lot. It is either river or garden views. Although you might get right outside looking at a shed. It was pretty nice. 18 would have been nice as well but it is smoking optional, and we couldn't have that.

Thanks for the info, Lainy67. We check into POR in ONE week!! We have never stayed there and are really excited. We have a bayou room with a trundle, and requested a building near a bus stop. Is it a long walk to the food court/ main lobby?

We're booked for Thanksgiving week and are so excited! Did you use the main bus stop or one of the others?

To PrincysMom, when you request your room, you should try to take it a step further by not just saying a rm. near a bus stop, but ask specifically for bldg. 14 or 15. These two are fantastic and a very quick walk from the bus stop after a long day of walking. Call the front desk (not the reservation people) of POR personally a few days in advance of arrival and make this particular request, you can't go wrong. You will LOVE this resort!!! Make sure you try the jacuzzi at the main pool and the slide there too, what a blast!!!

I went to Dixie Landings in May 2000 and we absolutely loved it. Very cute rooms and conveniently enough we were close to pool and food court. :earsboy:

Lainy67--you mentioned the slide was closed--do you mean just late at night, or is there a problem with the slide? Are all the pools open 24 hours? Is there a lifeguard at the main pool only during the day?

We leave in two days--can't wait!

Hi Lainy67, glad you enjoyed your stay at POR. We absolutely loved it as well. We were in AB, building 14, outside corner, overlooking pathway and river and that big area of ducks. :) Note: I had faxed in our requests 3 days prior and got EVERYTHING we asked for even though we didn't check in until 7:00pm. So close to the food court, and fairly convenient to the bus stop (south depot and first stop at POR) that we NEVER had any kind of substantial distance to walk, except in the parks of course. ;) An aside about bus stops: We never used any of the other bus stops, just the south depot nearest the food court/lobby. We never got a bus that had people on it from the French Quarter and only about 1/4 of the time did we continue to the rest of the bus stops at POR or coming back, did we stop at POFQ first. The majority of the time, it was the only stop we saw the bus make. Not sure if it is just a busier season and they have more busses manning the resorts, but it was incredibly convenient for us.

We loved the boat ride from DD back to the resort one of our nights, while enjoying a cookie bottom sundae from Ghirardelli's. YUM!!!!!!

It was disappointing about the trellis material under the pool bridge and it didn't look like any work was being done there either. The slide was open when we were there July 13-20 but I think it closes at 9:00 when the lifeguards leave for the night, although after a short storm closed the pool for about an hour one evening, they reopened at 9 and the lifeguards stayed and kept the slide open for a good while. FUN, FUN!! :Pinkbounc

Again, we absolutely loved POR and highly recommend it to anyone. I just remember constantly thinking about how we could get so many amenities (food court, gorgeous grounds, boatrides, large and fun pool and slide, playground, guest services, great restaurant, etc, etc) for such a great deal.

Glad you made it back safely. Looking forward to saving up for our next adventure.

Tammy

I called the front desk about 2 weeks ago about the bridge at the main pool being boarded up (was there in April, a real eyesore). They didn't have any info. on it, so I had a bright idea!! Call the guy at the poolside bar, he'll know! So thats just what I did. He told me they are going to have it completely repaired in September. So there you have it, we'll be able to swim under it once again!

What hours does the boat ride to DtD run?

Also, as POR guests you can use the dragon pool at POFQ if the slide at the POR pool is down :)

Dallas Lady, The boat to DTD runs from 4-11 or 11:30pm but the boat between the POR and POFQ runs continually every 20 minutes from 9:30 AM in the morning.

And yes, you are correct, it is available and so convenient to grab a boat to POFQ to try the dragon slide, though it is much smaller than the POR slide and more geared towards younger children, IMHO.

Jillpie, thanks for doing the research on the trellis. It is good to know they will be actually repairing it. There were just no signs of any attempt while we there.

Hello to all you North Texans! :)
Tammy

Thanks again for the info. Will definately try to get Bldg 14 or 15. To be fairly close to everything would be great! Can't wait.!!!
