We arrived home last night after a week in the VWL. Even though it is our home resort, this was our first stay here.
We had an early morning flight 7:40 A.M. out of Philly on Sunday 12/04. We stayed at the Marriot located at the airport the night before. Since it was a combo of snow and rain in the morning, this was a great idea. No having to unload the car and try to park in that mess.
When we arrived at the gate we decided to tell our daughters (4 and 2) our big surprise. I got out the video tape and told them where we were going! My four year old said ok, and the two year old.....nothing! Not quite the reaction I expected, but they enjoyed the trip once we got there.
We got on the plane at 10 minutes after 7, then sat on the runway until close to 10. The line for the de-icing was very long. Sitting on a plane that long you start to notice other people and their habits. Which brings me to my first vent of this trip. If you are going to spend a couple of hours in a narrow tube with other people, can you at least take a shower first!!!
The lady sitting in front of my father-in-law had the worst case of bed head I have ever seen. The back of her hair was flat, an obvious sign that she slept on her back all night. Her hair also had that greasy look to it. YUCK. The girl who sat in front of my wife and took off her shoes and smelled up the whole plane. After a couple of loud comments she placed them back on.
Ok, I'm done with that....back to the trip.
Magical Express worked great and we arrived at the resort in about an hours time from arrival. Upon arrival I called wegoshop and let her know we were here. She arrived at the resort in about another hour later. Very impressed with her service.
We got to see all the Christmas stuff, MVMCP, Candle Light Processional, and the lights in MGM. We also did a couple of character meals.
The first night we did Cinderalla's feast at 1900 Park Fare. The were so excited, it was really fun to watch them. The last day of our trip we did the Princess breakfast at Norway. The girl playing Sleeping Beauty at Norway was the same who played Cinderalla on our first night. When she came to our table she said to our girls " Do I know you two, I think we met before" It was so cool that she remembered them after a whole week.
The MVMCP was outstanding. We cancelled our dinner at O'Hana's that night and decided to head over early and just grab something quick there. That was our best idea of the week. The lines to get in were so long later on. We also heard that the wait for the boat at the lodge was very long.
For the Candle light we did the package and ate in Germany. That place is still the family favorite. The show was amazing and should not be missed.
Over all we loved the lodge and this was our best family trip to WDW so far. The worst part of the week was when we arrived home and I had to shovel out the driveway in order to get the car in.
If anyone has any questions I'll be happy to answer.

:) a classic...I'll never forget Christmas morning years ago with my 2 year old, at the time our only child. I was so excited; she had a cold and fell asleep after opening one or two presents.

Welcome back! How was your villa and view? Glad you had a great time! (btw, your Philly story sounds similar to one I have, lol)

We were in room 5556. It was the last room on the floor with a wonderful view of the dumpster. We could also see the bus stops but not much else. The walk from the elevator is long but very quiet. We never heard another person in the hall way.
Also the room was very clean. We had no complaints about the condition.

Thanks for the trip report -- this makes me very happy. We're set to leave Friday for our first trip home and our first trip during Christmas.

We're staying at VWL -- we didn't request a room. I'm interested to see what we get. We're just happy to be going! I've ordered from Garden Grocer because figuring out on my own what to order and in what sizes was just too much thinking. I liked picking things from categories, then the couple of items that I knew we wanted but weren't there I wrote in the comments section. The fellow called me and said, "Great, we can do that." So I'm hoping for the best.

We have ressies for the Biergarten on CP night as well, so I really appreciate your good review, because I don't think I'm a fan of German food, but it sounds like a fun place.

What time did you go into the MK for the MVMCP? We have reservations at Liberty Tree Tavern that night at 6:15. I figure we'll miss the first parade and catch it later. We really want to see the snow. Sorry. Snow is fun to us. (we live Mississippi now)

At VWL, did you see the carriage rides? We're considering that, but understand they are booked, but expect cancellations.

Glad to hear you had a great trip!

Shellybird,
I hope you like the Biergarten we look forward to being there on every trip. It is a fun atsmosphere at least if you don't enjoy the food.
If you arrive early enough for CP and can sit under the overhang. It didn't rain on us but we did have rain later on in the night. We did the 8:15 show and arrived in line at 7:40. We were way back by Japan, but still had excellent seats.
We saw carriage rides once when we were at the bus stops. Same with us, they were all booked.
If your ressies are for 6:15 leave early. The line at the docks get real long fast. You'll be able to get the park at any time so earlier is better.
Also in the villa lobby, check out the log that has the snake carving on it. Its by the fireplace on the right from the front entrance. It has a little "mickey" mouse on the side.

Californiadreaming,
Didn't pay much attention to the ceiling....sorry.
