Just returned from the Poly. Any questions?

I would like to know about the Poly Beach specifically on the 4th of July. Were they restricting it to only Polynesian guests or could anyone go and watch the fireworks? We have never been on a major holiday and just wondering what is was like.

I was reading the comments about 1/2 gallon containers of milk, and had a question. If we had Garden Grocer deliver two 1/2 gallon containers, would they BOTH fit in the Polynesian's room fridge? From what I've seen, temporarily removing the middle wire rack will let them fit vertically, but what about width and depth? :confused3 Has anyone tried this in the past?

It was not resticted to only those staying at the Poly. I didn't see anyone checking before the fireworks. We got to the Poly from dinner about 20 minutes before they stared. We grapped some extra towels from our room and had no problem finding a spot. After the fireworks we went to the volcano pool. It was easy to spot some who wree not Poly guests using the pool. A few were around in there regular clothes not swimsuits using the pool and spray area for the children. I was happy to see a few of them having to show ID to cast meembers. I don't think it was right of people to come to the Poly if they are not staying there. I know it's been said time and time again. It would of been nice if they could have checked peopel some how before the fireworks but that would of been hard. It bothered me but again we still had a great spot to see the fireworks. Would I go back on the 4th? Yes, I would.

I would think you could if you lay them down or maybe even fit them on the door. Maybe try to post this on the Poly thread and someone can answer you. Sorry I'm no help.

I just wanted to butt in here and say not all longhouse requests are granted! We stayed there last year--our TA requested Samoa or Fiji and mentioned specifically that it was our 20th ann. and make sure it's special--we ended up in rarotonga. This was arriving 7/11. They said there was absolutely nothing available in those buildings I had requested. Of course I didn't want to move after one night. It turned out fine, rarotonga is a great location for the bus stop and GCH and we had a nice garden/quiet pool view, not the parking lot side. But I can't be the only one who never gets room requests!
Robin M.

Yes, good point. We know we were very lucky to get our request.

There is an elevator in Samoa and in all longhouses except Niue but even that one has a bridge from Raratonga which does have an elevator.

A CM once told me Samoa is the most frequently requested longhouse so in particular I wouldn't go expecting that one. It would be a shame to start a vacation feeling disappointed. I'd rather be surprised at what magic awaits me in whichever one I'm assigned.:goodvibes

A few years ago on the 4th security wasn't letting anyone into the Polynesian parking lot unless you had a dining reservation or of course were a guest there. dancemomnj, did you return after dinner via car? I'm glad you had such a great trip. Another Polynesian convert!:cool1:

The CM told my husband when he checked us in that Samoa was the most requested. We didn't ask for a building just close to the volcano pool and 1st or 3rd floor.

We returned via the monorail. My husband noticed all the cars coming into the Poly when we were on it.

That is so cool that you got Samoa without asking for it. We've been placed there maybe 8-10 times too and have never requested it. Just pixie dust!:wizard:

I wonder if what your husband saw was the lineup as people were turned away without reservations. My experience was around 10 or so in the am and there was already a backup as they told people they couldn't come in.:thumbsup2 I think it is a good thing.

How big is the fridge? Do you think we'd be able to fit in a half gallon of milk and some yogurt? I hope to order some staples from gardengrocer.com before we go in August.

I agree a room request is just that a request. I've written down all the pros and cons of each longhouse (except Tonga) so I'll have it at checkin just in case they say, "we don't have Tokelau but we have Tahiti" or something like that - I can look at my list and know right off the pros and cons. Just an idea for others.

Would you be willing to post your list or PM it? That would be so awesome!:goodvibes

The fridge was about the college dorm room size. It's big enough to fit a half gallon of milk and yogurt for sure.

Here's a partial list I made when I was trying to figure out what to request. I did request Samoa. Fingers crossed.

Bldg. Preference -- Rooms--View--Pros

Samoa -- 1st or 3rd floor -- Garden -- Near GCH, volcano pool, quiet pool, boat dock, and beach.

Tokelau --1st or 3rd floor facing Quiet pool -- Garden -- Near Moana Mickey's Arcade, The Neverland Club, and the quiet pool and the beach.

Rarotonga -- 1st or 3rd Floor -- Garden -- Near GCH, Moana Mickey's Arcade, The Neverland Club, bus stop, main parking lot and the quiet pool.

Tahiti -- -- Garden -- Beach and the TTC. Double sinks.

The only thing is my list isn't really complete. I didn't write down all the pros & cons for all of them as I can picture the map of the Poly in my mind and for some longhouses I would just know what the pros & cons are by picturing them on the map. Like Rapa Nui - I can picture that one - it has parking lot views/view of the monorail (which isn't a bad thing) on one side and garden view on the other side & very close to TTC but further from GCH & the pools. So I don't mind posting it as long as everyone knows its not complete and I've never stayed there before - its just from my research and Tikiman's website. I also need to go back and write down which longhouses have balconies only on the 3rd floor and some have balconies on both 2nd & 3rd floors - very confusing.

It might be a few days as we're heading off for camp Tuesday for the week.
