I've so enjoyed reading the trip reports on this Board and I finally have the chance to share my trip memories with all of you.
My DH and I enjoyed our first trip home to SSR (our home resort) from 11/12 - 19, first two nights in a studio and changing to a one bedroom the last five. We heard more "Welcome Homes" than I could keep track of and enjoyed excellent service from all the CM's.
We had an absolutely perfect villa location - building 1501 - 1836 (third building from the Carriage House in Congress Park), rooms 1647 for the studio and 1645 for the one-bedroom. All of our requests were met - non-smoking, higher floor and pool view. We overlooked the quiet pool and West Side with the Congress Park bus stop only one minute from our villa door, Downtown Disney an easy 5 - 7 minute walk and Artist Palette and High Rock Springs pool about a 7 or 8 minute walk.
Both villas were in great condition, but after enjoying the extra space in the one bedroom, I'm certain that's where I'll want to stay in the future (might be tricky on our 160 points!). I loved the elegant feel of the furnishings and the granite countertops. We're really happy with our decision to purchase SSR!
The Donald Duck interactive water feature is under repair, the area had been torn up and Donald was sitting in the corner! We didn't have the chance to ask anyone about it but it certainly looked to be a major repair.
We enjoyed a couple of meals at Artist's Palette. While the menu is limited, what we had was great. I do agree with previous posts that the area is small and the addition of a full service restaurant would be great. We also enjoyed the Turf Club - very comfortable surroundings and a great adult place for a quiet drink.
Construction is in full swing with the remaining 8 buildings all in various stages. We could hear some construction noise but it didn't bother us. Phase 3 construction will be on the site of the fairway villas (we were told that the treetop villas do not belong to DVC).
Very few negatives - the building numbering scheme is tricky to understand. I want to thank Doc for his detailed SSR map - I knew from one look at his map that we had pulled a great location! The bathroom exhaust fans (and weird green flashing lights on the fans) are set up on motion detectors - very strange in the middle of the night to have the fans start up when we used the bathroom. The bathroom doors are like a maze, I was totally confused the first night in the one bedroom - (what door was that WC behind anyway!) After that, I learned to position the bathroom doors before I went to bed!
We spent one day at the F&W Festival and saw Chubby Checker in concert. Chubby can still put on a good show - the crowd loved him and his energy level was just amazing.
We took the Segway tour and absolutely loved it! We'll definitely do it again - very easy to learn to use and we felt like celebrities as we rode through World Showcase with other visitors taking our pictures and asking us questions about the Segways.
Thanks to anyone who's had the patience to make it all the way through this very long post! We had a great trip that lived up to all our expectations. Any questions, please let me know!
