We just returned from our NOv 10th-16th stay at the Polynesian. Thank you to everyone who has offered advise and information regarding this resort--especially Tikiman, your site was a great source of information. We had a great time--one of our best vacations ever.
Let me prequalify this with I am a very particular person and a clean freak. That being said, I will begin with the only negative thing and get it out of the way. We stayed Lagoon View Concierge in room 2517. The room was "OK"--as soon as I walked in I recalled the numerous posts about the Poly smell. I found it somewhat offensive, but it didn't bother my husband. The room itself was worn. I definitely see why they will be renovating these shortly. There was some mold on the shower curtain and nothing seemed to dry in this room. I hung the bathing suits from Tuesday on the line in the bath--by Friday they were still damp! The room was definitely the only downside.
With that being said, the view of the castle and fireworks from this room was spectacular. It was one of the highlights of our trip to watch them every night from our room. It was magical to wake up at any time and see the castle all lit looming on the horizon. We all loved it.
The service from the concierge staff was impeccable. They booked all of the PS's that I had requested--including Cinderella's. Before the trip, I had called to inquire if they would have Soy milk for my daughter who is allergic to dairy. They not only secured the brand that she favored, but they also made every restaurant that we had PS aware of her allergy and each of them had a specially prepared meal for her and soy milk. Anything that we needed, they helped. We were really pampered. We were also, suprised when we returned to our room and found champagne and chocolates to celebrate our anniversary along with a few other suprises throughout the week.
Every one from the concierge staff to the bellman to mousekeeping seemed genuinely interested in making our stay a memorable one. We were so impressed with the service. The last night we were there, my daughter awoke with a 103 degree temperature at 1 am. My husband called the front desk and within 9 minutes they were knocking on our door with Children's Tylenol in hand.
The concierge lounge was a great convenience. The food was always plentiful and good. We would definitely do concierge again. As far as money wise, we figured we came close to even, but we didn't make out as much as a larger family may, but the convenience was well worth it. We ate breakfast every morning there. We would eat lunch out, and we ate dinner there 3 nights. The food was always good. Also, don't miss the evening cordials and desserts--they were great. My husband would go down and bring a plate back every night after our daughter was asleep.
Overall, this was one of the best vacations we have had. The Polynesian's grounds were beautiful, they have a nice pool area, and the service was outstanding. I hope I didn't ramble too much. If anyone has any questions--I would be happy to answer.
