Spouse and I went to WDW waaay back in 1985 and this is our first trip since then - we took our 7 and 10 year old daughters.
First of all, we flew for free because we used flight vouchers that we had received from taking a bump on our vacation last year. Our flight was wonderful, even though I was flying with a sinus and ear infection but it was only bad on the descent. We booked our car through Dollar to get a Dodge Stratus but were given an Intrepid instead - good thing because we brought way too much luggage!
We arrived at ASMu to check in but were offered a free upgrade to AKL since they had overbooked! I'm glad we took it - the pool is awesome and we really enjoyed the accommodations.
We really hit hard on the first day in the park - left the hotel early and got back late, soaking wet and tired but made it most of the way through MK. We finished up MK the next day. Our third park day was spent at Epcot. We didn't finish the World Showcase but the girls didn't mind. They were kind of bored.
Our fourth park day was spent at MGM, which was somewhat disappointing. Some of the rides and shows were closed due to low staff and they weren't offering Fastpass the way the other parks were. We ended up in yet another Florida torrential downpour and subsequently hopped back to MK to ride more rides.
We saved a day on our tickets because the girls were asking to shop for souvenirs and swim, so that's what we did. I couldn't see taking them back to the parks if they really didn't want to go, so we had a very relaxing day.
I have to say that my trip would have not been the same if it weren't for all of the wonderful advice on the DIS boards. We fastpassed as many rides as we could and ate some of our meals off-site or in our room. We didn't use the transportation from the hotel because you can park at the parks for free with your resort card, and that allowed us to sleep a little bit later.
I have learned two things from my trip: don't pack so much and find comfortable sandals to wear - sandals dry out a lot faster than tennis shoes!
We had a wonderful time!
