We just recently returned from our first trip home to BCV, and -- wow! -- what a neighborhood we "live" in.
We checked in on Dec. 6 and the studio portion of our registration (#339) was ready immediately (at 10:30 a.m). The two-bedroom (#333) wasn't ready till around 3 p.m. I had asked for rooms on a higher floor, but since I had also asked for the two rooms to be close together, I didn't try to get them switched. We were happy just to be near each other.
Room 333 is a dedicated two-bedroom villa and, although I didn't ask for it, the second bedroom had two queen beds, which worked well for us.
Both rooms had the woods/wetland view. At least, I think that's what you call it. Both rooms had average size balconies, and because of how we were located, the balconies on the studio and the 2-bedroom ended up being just catty-corner to each other (rather than side by side).
Room 333 is just a few doors down from the elevator -- on the right. Room 339 is a few more doors down and around a corner.
Water pressure and air conditioning seemed fine to me. In fact, it got so cool that at times we had to turn the thermostat up. My daughter and son-in-law, though, said it was much warmer in their studio. Perhaps my thermostat had been "fixed" and theirs hadn't??
We saw no evidence of trash in the hallways. One morning, we did see a clean platter sitting outside a door (perhaps from room service?), but no trash at all.
Both rooms were in excellent condition -- no issues of cleanliness at all. And, no signs of ants or other vermin.
The only thing I did notice was that the dining room table had several "gouges" on its finish -- places where the finish had been "peeled" away -- and they were very noticeable, as though someone had taken a knife to the table. Later, I wondered if that was a "look" they were going for, because when we passed one of the "community" rooms on our many walks in and out, I noticed that the scalloped edges of the tables in that room had the finish worn off of them, as well. On those tables, though, it looked more natural. At any rate, the condition of our kitchen table did not diminish our love for the BCV one little bit. We had a marvelous time!!
The only kind of odd thing was that I asked for a hand mixer, and housekeeping acted like that was the strangest request -- almost like they didn't know what a hand mixer was. They asked if I wanted a bar mixer . . . or a blender. When I explained that I wanted a hand mixer, like you would use if you were baking a cake, they said, "Oh, no! They're never available, here." I started to let it go, but then I checked my notes. Yes, I take copious notes of things said here and on the DVC member website, and according to both, a mixer should be available. So . . . I called the front desk and explained my predicament, and they delivered a hand mixer in about 15 minutes. And, no, it wasn't new. It obviously had been around the whole time. We all chuckled . . . while we ate low carb pizza (what I needed the mixer for). The only reason I mention this here is so you will know that a mixer is available if you need one.
My daughter-in-law also asked for a crib, and it was delivered within 10 minutes.
Thank you, Doc, for your advice regarding NetZero. It worked like a charm! You have to love those .35 phone calls, and NetZero is very easy to use.
I just can't say enough good things about the Beach Club Villas. The Christmas decorations were beautiful, and the cast members we met were wonderful. The best thing of all, though, was our closeness to Epcot. It was amazing to me how quickly we arrived at the International Gateway. And, what a beautiful walkway it is, whether you go in the morning or at night.
Although this was our first trip home, it was not our first stay at a DVC resort. We had previously stayed at Old Key West and the Boardwalk. One evening we were talking and my son said, "You know, Mom, it's funny. We love each of the DVC resorts we've stayed in for different reasons." And, he's right. Each DVC resort is special in its own way, and I am glad we have the choice of all of them until 2042. We are lucky!
We're scheduled to go back Oct. 23 through Nov. 1 -- for the Food and Wine Festival and for Halloween -- and I had originally thought I might try to switch to the Boardwalk at seven months. Now, I'm not so sure, though. We really do love our home at the Beach Club Villas. All my worries before we went were for nothing. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.
If you're one of those who are still looking forward to your first trip "home" -- relax! You're in for a treat!
