Travel day on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. This trip was for my best friend's birthday. Checked into the Candy Cane Inn and headed to Downtown Disney for dinner and shopping. Had a wonderful meal at Tortilla Jo's, then walked back to the Disneyland Hotel to check out the new DVC tower. It's interesting looking, but out of my budget. I'm not sure how I feel about it looking so different from the other towers.

Wednesday, October 11, 2023 - Spent the day at Disneyland. The crowds were moderate, and the weather was beautiful. Made it to rope drop, but only stayed until 8:00 p.m. I can't go all day like I used to, but we were able to ride everything we wanted and just enjoyed being in the parks. This was my first time to ride Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, and I loved it!! We had Genie+, and we really took advantage of PhotoPass. Every time I saw a PhotoPass photographer anywhere, we got in line!

Thursday, October 12, 2023 - My best friend's birthday! It was a bit more crowded at Disneyland, and the weather a bit warmer than the day before. Felt a little tireder after yesterday, but hey, we're still at Disneyland, and I can't complain! We tried the lemon beignet at Tiana's Palace, and it was delicious! Nice and refreshing on a rather warm afternoon. I would have liked to have tried some of the other menu items, but the birthday girl wanted Plaza Inn fried chicken for dinner, so that's what we had for dinner two nights in a row! They really do have some of the best fried chicken!

The cast members were wonderful, as per usual!

Our stay at the Candy Cane Inn was okay. I really appreciated the shuttle, especially at the end of the day :-). The grounds are impeccable, and the breakfast items are plentiful and a nice variety, but we both felt that housekeeping left a bit to be desired. There was some staining on the sheets, and we found long hairs in the beds and in the shower. I don't know if I'd stay here again.

From the outside it looks wonderful. I too was initially confused by the different colors but I actually think it works. It sort of stands off by itself and at least I think of it separately compared to DLH.
The colors actually represent three different movies

I know frozen is one of them, I can’t remember the other two but right below all the colors there is an explanation to the colors and how they are the movies. I’m explaining this terribly but just know that running up vertically are three columns of colors representing three different Disney movies 😂

Also, I just found out that every 15 minutes on the side of the tower closest to the monorail slides some glitter appears and snakes its way down the side of the building until Tinker Bell appears! 🧚🏻

I didn't realize the part about the glitter and Tinker Bell. I'll have to remember that for next time!

I forgot to mention above that we used Magic Band+ for the first time, and it was super convenient. While I still had to be on my phone a bit to make Genie+ reservations, I found it so nice to be able to scan into Disneyland and onto Genie+ rides with the Magic Band+. I just wish there was some way they could make the face of the Magic Band+ show the time.

I agree. I wish there was some sort of messaging system on the MB as well. They could include reminders of meal reservations, notification that mobile food orders are ready, reminders of Genie+ reservations and even traffic control notifications (ex. wait times on attractions). Basically, I think they should make a smart watch (with Disney smart watch app) that can also be used as a MB.

It’s been so long since I’ve stayed at the Candy Cane Inn. Sorry to hear about the stains and hairs. I remember being so impressed when I stayed there (Twas many moons ago though). They gave us a little basket with little candy canes, cookies, and some other small treats. Such a nice touch. Do they still do that?

Oooh! Lemon Beignets? I can’t wait to try out Tiana’s! I remember the yummy goodness that was Plaza Inn fried chicken. Sounds like you had a great trip! Thanks for sharing—it’s so fun to read trip reports! Helps me to get my Disney fix from home!

We did not receive a basket with candy canes, cookies, and treats at the Candy Cane Inn. Would be a nice thing for them to restart!

Yes - lemon beignets! I love just about anything lemon (more on the tart side than the sweet), so I really loved these! The plates of food that I saw other people enjoying looked very good, so next time I'm hoping to try some gumbo!

Awww bummer they don’t do the basket anymore! It was such a fun treat!

I’ve officially added lemon beignets and gumbo to my list of Disney treats to try during an upcoming trip. Good thing we do a lot of walking when we go to Disneyland! lol

They do this for the deluxe rooms. I was just there a few weeks ago and we for microwave popcorn, cookies, snack bars and candy canes. We also got room delivery for breakfast. We had a great stay and would stay again. We didn’t use the shuttle. For $299/night, it was a good value.

I was just going to speculate that that was the case. I've stayed at the CCI multiple times (none since the reopening) and never gotten a gift basket. It would make sense that it was only for people paying for the deluxe rooms.
