Our family of four returned from a 5 night stay at the GF. We were there before Presidents week from 2/15-20. Just wanted to share some thoughts with everyone since I enjoyed reading everyones posts before I left.
I reserved a GV room at the rate of $250.00 approximately 4 months before. I am a season pass holder but they told me this was a winter room only rate. Sounded good to me! A few days before arriving I called to reconfirm and was told that my room was upgraded to LV! In addition we had some family members joining us for 1 night. I reserved them a GV room (1 week before) at the rate of $350.00 and was told that room was also upgraded to a lodge room (bigger w/separate sitting area). Rooms were both in the #9 building w/a view of the beach/lagoon by the zero entry pool. Don't know why I was upgraded for these 2 rooms but it was a pleasant surprise. It could have been my season pass or because we were there last summer for 2 weeks at the YC. I found rooms at the GF to be very similar in design and size to the YC. We have also stayed at the BC, WL, AKL and Swan. Have always loved the YC but wanted to try the GF. I think we have a new favorite Disney Hotel. Loved the grounds and it was less crazy then the area around the YC. Enjoyed seeing the fireworks from Narcooses and Citricos. BTW I signed up for a Disney Dining Experience card and saved approximately $300.00 over a 5 night stay. Great deal! We even used the card at the Mizner Lounge for drinks as we listened to live jazz on the balcony. I think the best part of the GF was Gasparillas. We walked over there in the morning and brought pancakes, bacon, coffee, etc back to our room to enjoy overlooking the lagoon. Breakfast for 4 averaged $20.00. A lot cheaper than room service. When we left at 5:30am for our flight we were able to grab a quick breakfast w/no hassle (it is open 24 hours).
In addition, my daughter left her stuffed dog in the bed the day before and it went out w/the laundry. We called and they found it and sent it to our home--no charge. Overall very pleased w/the service, location, rooms, and pool areas. A very relaxing stay. :cheer2:

Sounds wonderful! Upgrades always start a vacation off right. The GF is one hotel I've never tried. :earboy2:

Glad you enjoyed your stay. We were upgraded to a lagoon view room in Big Pine when we stayed there in '99. Upon checking in, we were there for a conference, had convention rate of :earseek: $210 a night, the CM told me that none of the convention rooms were available ye, would we have a problem with a dormer room if it had a lagoon view? Dumb me, didn't realize I should kiss the poor girl! The room was great, as was the location. I just called back today, I had found our receipt for that stay and it ahd the room number on it, that's how I recognized the bldg #9 reference. Hope I get a little pixie dust for this trip as well...............

I absolutely LOVED the GF when we stayed in Sugarloaf in August 03! Room decor, service, pools, grounds, restaurants, orchestra, monorail to MK, etc, etc, and so much more! I would always stay there if they could improve only one thing...Transportation back to the hotel from the Magic Kingdom! I remember waiting over an hour for the boat and/or monorail to get back every time we stayed for Wishes. So close.. but so far! If they can only finish the walking path that ends so very close to the GF! They store the EWP boats there and it stops. It seems a glaring error for the Disney Flagship resort with TOP PRICING to have this inconvience! The thing I love about the Epcot resort area is that you can get away from the massive crowds after illumimations and fantasmic by just walking on the path back to the hotels (BW, YC,BC, Swan/Dolphin) It is a soothing end to the day. :flower: :wave2:

Thanks for sharing. I hope to try GF on one of our next visits.... and now I know where to go :goodvibes

I too inquired about the walking path from MK to GF. The boat captain told me that no plans were under way to complete it over the marina. I found taking the monrail to MK and the boat back convenient. We did not have to wait long for either but we also did not stay in MK for "Wishes". I would have loved the walk though to MK in the morning. Yes, I also agree the best thing about the Boardwalk resorts was the easy acess to Epcot. Especially if we went for dinner. It always was an enjoyable stroll there and back even winding our way through the fireworks crowd at 9.
We were also surprised to find buses right at the front door of the GF to other Disney areas. I was afraid that we would have to go back to the TTC for buses.

GF is our very favorite resort. We've always stayed garden view - and we
have always been lucky in getting our request - Sago Cay marina view. This year we are finally getting a lagoon view room and really hoping for a castle view. We'll be there on the 4th of July so it would be perfect. I'm glad the GF was all that you hoped it would be. To me it is the perfect resort.

We're going for our first visit next month. I'm so excited. What were some of your favorite things about the resort?

How did your child/children like the GF? It is funny that you posted this because my sister's friend is trying to determine which resort is the most child friendly and still really nice. Most people are telling her to stay at the yacht or beach club and even the boardwalk, but I recommended the GF. I suggested also the Poly but she doesn't like that themeing. Thanks :flower:

My kids love the GF. The first year we stayed there they were 2, 4 and 5. It is (contrary to popular belief) very kid friendly. The Wonderland tea party, Pirate Cruise and Grand Adventures in Cooking are all held there. Gasparilla's is great - kids love to get ice cream there and watch the fireworks from the tables outside of Gasparilla's. The pools are fun and the Cms are very friendly. We like 1900 Park Fare for both breakfast and dinner. You cannot beat the transportation to MK - 1st stop on the monorail on the way there, first stop on the boat on the way back. It's also very relaxing after a day in the parks.

We stayed last July (04) and enjoyed our stay with a 7 for 4 Visa Deal. Being 1 stop away from the MK on the monorail was extremely convenient, and the atmosphere of the resort totally removes you from the frenetic atmosphere of the park. My DS lost his treasured blue bear (stuffed animal) to the laundry and still talks about it, but we enjoyed a wonderful once-in-a-lifetime 7 night stay! We were supposed to have a garden view, but we overlooked the quiet pool. The room very much reminded me of the Disneyland Hotel. It had the same wall paper. The bedspreads featured Disney park attractions in both places. I wish I could afford it every trip! Back to the Swan/Dolphin and teacher discounts for us!

Glad you enjoyed your GF stay so much. I love it too.

I personally hope that there is never a walkway from the MK to the GF and the Polynesian. I think the seperation increases the feeling of relaxation at those two resorts. Nothing better than watching the Electrical Water Pageant and Wishes from the GF or Polynesian without dealing with the crowds.

Both my daughters loved the GF (they are 13 & 15). I felt it was very child friendly for little ones and there were plenty around. The pool was great for little ones as well. I don't think you can get a nonchild friendly hotel anywhere in Disney.
What I liked best about the GF:
soft self serve icecream machine at Gasparillas
Zero entry pool
Beach
view of the lagoon
Dinner at Narcooses & fireworks
Dinner at Citricos & fireworks
Lovely grounds
Attire of the staff
Mizner lounge
Jazz band playing every night on the balcony
Reasonable priced drinks at pool bar
Concierge who could print our preordered MYW tix and check to see what was left on old tix.

Ahhhh, isn't the GF divine? One of my favorite experiences in the world, getting to luxuriate in that gorgeous hotel room. So glad you enjoyed it.

I think the best part of the GF was Gasparillas. We walked over there in the morning and brought pancakes, bacon, coffee, etc back to our room to enjoy overlooking the lagoon.

Well this is good news. The menu on allears only shows these items offered for breakfast:

French Toast Sticks - $3.99
Plain Egg Croissant - $4.79
Egg and Bacon Croissant - $5.39
Egg and Sausage Croissant - $5.39

Sausage or Bacon $2.25
Oatmeal or Grits $2.39/$2.49
Tator Tots $1.50

Could you tell me what else is not listed?

GF is one we're hoping to try someday if I can pry us away from the YC and SAB. I know nothing can quite compare to SAB but how is the pool at GF? We tend to spend quite a bit of time lounging at the pool, so it's a huge feature for us. Thanks for your reviews! Sharon

Totally and completely agree. :flower:

The breakfast menu at Gasparillas is huge. Anything and everything is offered from cold to hot---pancakes, waffles, hash browns, sausage, eggs, cereal, yogart, donuts (krispy creme like) bagels etc.

The pools at GF were very nice. there were 2. The quiet one in the courtyard w/plenty of chaises and hot tub, bar, bathrooms etc. Large but not zero entry. Even though it was billed as a quiet pool there were plenty of kids there. The other pool was our rfavorite. A zero entry w/ a waterslide that ajoined the large beach. We loved lounging on the beach and it was usually pretty crowded. There were chaises and also cabana like covers around a lot of the chairs. Very nice and picturesque. Very relaxing. Unlike the beach at the YC were there was never anyone on it. The GF beach pool has a large bar area where you could order food from the room service menu. Plenty of tables and chairs. The pool was not as big as the YC but also not as crazy. We stayed at the YC last summer for 2 weeks and could never find a chair by mid afternoon there.

Thank you for all of the information. I feel better now with my decision to switch from BC.

Here is a question about the beach pool at the GF. Does the beach actually connect into the pool? In other words, does the zero entry part of the pool contain sand? Not sure if this makes any sense. GF sounds so great from all these reviews. Can't wait to go. Sharon
