Let me start with the positives.
  • The "bones" of the resort itself are lovely and is in a fantastic location.
  • Stormalong Bay is a fantastic pool, and my daughter had alot of fun there. Also appreciated the very large number of lifeguards that were on duty.
  • Beaches & Cream - yes please.
  • All of the staff we encountered (except for a grumpy waitress at Cape May) were very friendly and eager to help.
And now the negatives.
  • The refurb can't come soon enough. The common areas and our room were looking every bit their age, with worn out furnishings and dirty carpets.
  • Our bathroom was in pretty bad shape. The tub would not stop running 24/7, no matter how hard we tried to shut the water off. The grout was quite mildewy (not sure that's even a word), and the ceiling fan was rusted and hadn't seen a dust cloth in years.
  • And this is more of a nit than a complaint, but staffing levels at Stormalong Bay (other than lifeguards, as noted above) needed to be much higher. On multiple occasions last week we had servers drop off menus at our loungers, with the promise that they would be "back in just a minute" and 45 minutes later, we ended up walking up and ordering our own food and drinks (hello first world problems), meaning that they ended up missing out on tips from us and (I assume) others. Not the servers fault, as there appeared to only be 2-3 of them working on days where every single chair and lounger were being used - it's Easter week BCV, you're going to be busy...
Once the refurb is completed, we absolutely would stay at BCV again and would have no hesitation recommending it to others. If you have a reservation prior to that point, you might want to lower your expectations.

Happy to answer any questions (flame suit on).

It is truly sad. We are BCV owners and have not stayed there in three years due to timing issus and having to plan late. this trip we actually wanted to stay at BLT but the only things we could get for all 5 days was BCV, during F & G & Star Wars Weekend too. I know it is highly prized for EPCOT and DHS events but we are really worried it will just be a mess. We have my sister and her family joining us on their first visit and really wanted to make a statement but I fear BCV will disappoint.
Hopefully I am worrying about nothing and everything will be clean and beautiful. I am less woried about furniture and carpet age but will not put up with filthy carpets or mold in the bathroom. That is laziness on the part of housekeeping and there is not excuse. I hate cleaning my bathrooms at home with a teenage boy at home but you would never find visable mold in my bathrooms. Since Housekeeping is cleaning at least every 5-10 days there is no reason this should ever happen. Have they not hear of a little substance called bleach?

It is our home resort as well. While we have been pretty fortunate not to get too shabby of a room, it is really starting to show age. I hope it is more then just furniture replacement and appliances. I wander how they will address the bathroom issues; new tile ?

We are just a couple of weeks away from our first trip and where hoping against all odds to get a refurbished room but now I'm pretty positive that won't be happening. Did you notice any sign that the refurb has begun?

When we checked in on the 26th, I had asked about the status of renovations and was told that while they had started on the hotel, they had not yet started on the villas. When we checked out on the 5th, I saw no evidence of any work being done (no workers, dumpsters, etc.) so if it has started, they are bring discrete about it.

We had that exact same room last Nov/Dec.

The drippy faucet in the tub drove us a bit batty but honestly don't remember the room being all that bad. As we were bringing our luggage up from the parking lot maintenance was there wanting to clean a spot in the room. We could not find a dirty area so we sent them on their way since we didn't want to deal with wet carpet. Hallway carpet was really gross though.

More than ready for the refurb.
