As many times as we've been, we still manage to learn something new each time! A HUGE thanks to the DISer who posted the tip about free ice water in the parks. Took advantage of that many times this past week! CM's always friendly about it, too. While waiting for one child to finish riding Dumbo, I stopped nearby for a cup of water. Guy in front of me paid for bottled water, and when I asked for ice water he said "they don't charge for that??"

You just ASK for ice water in the parks???? And they give it???

INTERESTING!!!!

Yep! That's it! They'll even give you a cup of ice with NO water if you want. Any place that sells drinks will have water too.
FREE!!! Best bargain at WDW!!!!

Thanks for passing along this tip! It'll surely come in handy in August LOL :rotfl2:

I used this tip on my last trip in 2005 and it worked like a charm! I stopped carrying a bottle of water altogether.

Any CS restaurant will give you a cup of ice water if you ask - you don't even have to buy any food! And the water tastes fine (it's from their soda fountains, not the sometimes icky-tasting tap/drinking fountain water). I hate lugging around a heavy water bottle, and used this tip often!

That is one of the things I love about this board. We all continue to learn things no matter how many times or how much we think we know about Disney. Thanks to everyone who has ever helped me or will help me.

I've gotten free ice water for years. It just makes me too full to drink soda with meals. If you don't like plain water, they now have the little packages of mix to put in water, either regular or sugar free. I even saw one the other day at Walmart for apple flavor. For a large glass, you may have to use two.

I can't take credit for this as I read it also on the boards, but I posted this thread awhile back:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1450203

I had read a couple of times about this, but it was always buried in another thread about something else so I figured it should have it's own topic as it's really a HUGE deal people don't know about.

And yes, it's true. You can ask just for the ice water and they are happy to give it to you, no questions asked.

I read the free ice water tip before my trip I just returned from a couple of days ago. It saved us a lot of money at meals because we just ordered 6 cups of ice water and added Crystal Light. No money spent for drinks and we could also refill our water bottles before leaving the restaurant.

Such a great tip...and with the humidity in Florida right now, water is a definite must.

This is a great money-saving tip! I, too, have been doing this for a while. Enjoy!

I've been doing this for years. :goodvibes (It might have even been my post you read about this :rotfl2: )I first found out about it almost 30 yrs. ago when a friend of mine worked at DL during college. She told me that all the food venues would give you either a cup of ice, or a cup of ice water. Now that the parks sell soda in cans and/or bottles, it's even easier to just get ice. In the past, sometimes, you'd have to get the cup with water too, and then if you just wanted the ice, you either dumped out, or drank the water.

We went to DLR a few days ago and brought along our own cans of soda. Yes-it did make our bags a little heavy at the beginning of our day, but I got the free stroller, thanks to Disney Visa :goodvibes (sorry only available at DLR :confused3 ) and our whole family used it to carry our bags. The only sodas we bought that day were at lunch and we got those in to-go cups, as well. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

There was a difference, however, at least at DCA as to what size cups you got. My DSis grabbed a few cups at Pizza Ooh Mow Mow, and they were small cups, no lids. However, when we got some ice cream at Burrbank, we got full sized cups, with lids.

Even with DDP, I can't stand to use SC for bottled water  especially when cups of water/ice are free! And yes, many times when I've asked for my cups of ice/water, I've seen looks, and gotten comments from other guests. I've also told guests, while in line, that water is free at Disney! :grouphug:

Keep hydrated everyone! :sunny:
