Just realized LM rooms at AoA have exterior doors?

Stumbled upon this fact when reading some articles about how it was intended to be the '40s building for POP. Pictures showed exterior doors to the rooms and further reading confirmed this.
I am all booked for a late Sept trip at AoA in a LM room, with a FD pin :cool1:, but I have to say this fact bothers me. Isn't it kind of "motel-ish" to have exterior doors? :confused3
Also, how will it work if you are not on ground level? Is there some kind of elevator to bring you up to the higher floors?

never stayed at a value but i thought most of them are exterior doors....mods even have exterior doors. only deluxes have inside doors and balcony.

im not an expert though

usually outside stairs and maybe 1 elevator per building ??

The LM rooms/buildings are set up like a value resort. Look at Pop, or any of the All Star resorts, and there you go.

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. I thought they were all exterior doors. All the Mods are exterior doors.

I was thinking that the pictures I saw of the suite buildings (LK, Nemo, Cars) were interior doors, but not LM. As others have said, all of the value and moderate resorts are exterior hallways. There is an elevator though, at least in all the ones I've been too.

the Family suites (LK/Cars and Nemo) are interior hallway, the LM (and all other MOD/Values) are external "motel" style as you like to say.

There are stairs at each end of the buildings and elevators in the middle of each building.:thumbsup2

yes, the LM rooms at AoA have exterior doors. The LM rooms were built out of the old Pop Century Legendary Years buildings that were not completed or opened to the public. So they have the same design as the other Pop Century buildings. There are elevators in the center of the building. The family suites at AoA have interior doors since they are all new buildings. The family suite buildings also have elevators.

All of the other values & mods have exterior doorways.

two elavators in each building at POP probably same at AoA.. we prefer exterior doors to a hallway type door..faster exit in case of a fire.been there and do not want to experience it again people about tampled us to death getting out of that mess.

I prefer interior doors.
We are just back from AoA, and the suites rooms all have interior halls(cute ones too)

The Little Mermaid building is the old building they originally built years ago so yes it has outside doors.

For some it doesn't matter. For me it does, I need a hall. Particularly with the snakes and bugs of Florida!

We have always stayed at Pop with the exterior doors. Trust me, I cannot stand that "motel" style, but sucked it up because it was Disney & that was the only way we could afford to go every year. I never felt unsafe as far as the doors being exterior, but I did always worry about snakes & bugs - mostly snakes - especially after some of the horror stories I read on the Dis!!!

Knowing the family suites are interior doors may just push me over the edge to that v. 2 LM rooms though!!

Just remember it was a room at the Contemporary - interior halls - that had a family of snakes living in it. Interior halls don't do too much to prevent anything.

Thanks for responding :lovestruc this is my first time on property and it's been hard for me. I usually stay offsite in Hampton inns and home wood suites. I love those hotels! When i travel I look for those first. Cheap clean and free breakfast. But the last time, it was just too much getting to and from disney! An hour each way! I don't like driving in unfamiliar areas so a rental car was out and we used hotel shuttle. I know values are the farthest away from the parks but I'm hoping the bus system on property will be worlds better. I'm excited for the new resort, LM is my fav disney movie, the pool and splash zone look awesome. I guess I'll just have to get used to the exterior door style, better I found out now than later. It's a lot more money to stay on property as well, even with the fd pin it's like 1400 for seven nights, and that's with only a 2 day base ticket! 2 adults 1 infant. I hope it's worth it-I love having our meals included. But this may be our first and only on site trip if the aoa is not good. Not having a front desk in my hotel building also bothers me for service and security reasons. Sorry to sound high maintenance it's just what I'm used to. Any thoughts to ease my fears? Guess after this trip it may be back to offsite with a couple of days in disney and 1 or 2 in universal/seaworld.

If you have been using an offsite shuttle in the past I think you will likely be very happy with Disney transportation. I am also not a fan of the exterior doors and generally never stay in a hotel with them, we pretty much always stay at mods and they always have them. It's been fine. Would I prefer interior? Yes, but the exterior has not been a big deal.

If you want a nice compromise between staying on and off, the DTD area has some nice hotels that have decent bus transportation to/from the parks.
We stayed in the Doubletree near DTD a few years ago, and I didn't notice a huge difference between the bus transportation from there and on the property. The only park that took a long time was AK and that's because they drop off first at the TTC before heading over to AK (the trip back from MK was also longer for this reason). Even then the rides were less than 30 minutes. Epcot and DHS also shared, but they're so close together that it really wasn't an issue. The main thing I noticed that made on property better was that they send more buses more quickly. Since the DTD area buses are only scheduled every 30 minutes, they fill up quickly in the morning (by the time a new bus arrived, the next one was already there). They seemed to deal with the evening rush a lot better.

My parents were paying for that trip, and there was no way I would be able to convince them to pay even value resort prices (maybe now that free dining is offered ALL the time). The Doubletree is an all suites hotel, and we ended up paying around $70/night for a suite that would sleep 6 and included breakfast. (mousesavers rate)

I'm fairly high maintenance too (I've been staying at Hiltons on my Daddy's points for years;)) and I LOVE staying on property at Disney. I started at AKL, but enjoyed my stay at CBR just as well (granted I had a nightmare a few weeks before the trip that my room was surrounded by water and we had to use stepping stones to get across, which would have been a nightmare with the stroller, so I was just happy that it didn't come true). The theming at the Disney resorts cannot be beat.

Just remember that the mods and some deluxe rooms also don't have the "front desk" area in the same building that you sleep in. We stayed in the Garden wing of the CR 2 years ago and had to walk to the main building for guest services.

If you are worried about snakes, don't go to Florida :thumbsup2

But really, just say not ground floor. Most snakes don't fly. :stir:
