I have been re-checking mini-van prices on National just in case the rate goes down. It has pretty much stayed the same but today....OH MY GOODNESS it went WAY WAY UP. I used the same codes etc and even did it twice in case I goofed the first time. Mini van for July1-15. $1697 and that is with a $412 discount using coupon codes etc........I am so glad I booked a few months ago. I think I will stop checking as if it went up that much I dont see it ever coming down lower than we booked it (around $580). I just cna't belieive the huge jump.!!!

I have had the same problem. My DH wants us to drive our own car (Suburban) to WDW from NC, but I hate to put so many miles on our car. So I have been looking at renting a minivan locally and driving it to WDW. The cheapest I have found so far is with Hertz - using my AAA discount - the rate is $322 for 9 days. The problem is that they rent Fords and my DH is an avid Chevy man and is adamant that he will not drive a Ford - which is all the more reason - he thinks - that we should drive our own car.

The other problem is that I do not know how large the interior of the Ford Freestar is and we have 2 adults and 3 kids (ages 15, 14 and 11). The two oldest kids are 6' tall so I guess we really have 4 adults and 1 child. I am not sure if we will fit comfortably for a 10 hour drive. I guess I could go to the local Ford dealership and look at them, but I hate to do that!!! I wish the rates would not fluctuate so much - I would love to fly but the cheapest flight I can find is $175 round trip and for 5 people would be $875 - and would need to rent a car when we get there.

Good luck with your hunt for cheap car rental!!! :earsboy:

You know it won't depreciate or wear your car excessively to drive it an extra couple thousand miles.....

I mean, I understand your train of thought, but it really doesn't justify renting a minivan. You'll be much more comfortable in your own vehicle, and this is VERY important for long drives. The money you will save on the rental will more than pay for fuel (which you have to pay for either way). Live a little, it's only a vehicle! I had a really hard time agreeing to drive, but on top of it driving our precious new vehicle... it was tough, but now I am excited about driving it...

We start driving in the wee hours of the morning tomorrow....... so excited!

I'm with you. I am so glad I booked all my ressies with National for the year back in January when the prices were so low.
Every once in a while I will go back and check rates and they are all between $200. and $400. more then what I have booked.

I made mine so long ago. Call me crazy but I am always hoping for a small change...just even $5.00 so I can fell that excitement...It went down!!! I know I have a great rate but I always end up with the same rate I originally book. I know it sounds so dumb but I would love to put in the numbers and have it go down just a teeny tiny bit. I would then have to re0book which can be a pain but I would just love to have it happen...I know it is dumb and I should be thrilled that we have a great rate and I am I am just being silly. I know it sdumb. I went to Target the other day and bought DD a video marked $3 and when it rand up it only rang up like $2.89 I was THRILLED..a DEAL ..so silly. I was excited over .20....it just feels so good to have a savings.
