Hi All,

I'm pretty new to the Dis boards, but I expect I'll be around a lot over the next few months because I've just booked my first solo trip for Oct 2016! I'm so excited!!! I just got back from an amazing trip with my nephew a couple of weeks ago and knew I wanted to get back ASAP! I'm really looking forward to taking my time and doing all the things I want to do...things that didn't interest my nephew! It was my first trip back as an adult and I am hooked!! I'm renting DVC points and staying in an AK villa (also a first time)...so excited to have a view of the Savannah! Any tips or insights you'd like to share, I'd love to hear! What are some of your favorite things to do solo? I'll be reading through the threads here to try to wrap my head around all the possibilities!

Good for you! (And also... :welcome::wave2: )

I took my first solo last July and have done 2 more since. It's so fun! I did a trip report on that trip...link is in my signature if you are interested! Since it was my first solo and I go into a lot of detail about everything I did and the perks and all of being solo, it might be helpful. :)

October is an amazing time to go. Hope you are going to try to do Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. SO much fun. I did it and the Christmas one in 2013 (with someone else). In 2015 I did the Christmas one solo. As far as tips...just don't be afraid to book whatever ADR's you want. Many solo folks won't do table service meals and all. There is so much good food to be had...go for it! Also you'll be there during Food and Wine at Epcot...another amazing event. One great thing about that is before you go you can check here for tons of info about it, including complete menu's from each kiosk around the world showcase and even pictures of the food. So you can kind of get a game plan for thinks you definitely want to try and have an idea of how much you will be spending on that.

The greatest advantage to going solo is being able to take your time and change your whole plan at a moment's notice if you so desire. I love to plan out the details of my trips...but once I'm there, if I don't stick to that plan exactly, then it's ok. And it's even MORE ok when you are solo. I had a dinner reservation one night at a place I had been excited about before, but at the last minute wasn't in the mood for a sit down dinner. So I decided to just take the cancellation charge and I grabbed something yummy I had discovered the day before.

I'm trying to think of there specific things to tell you...but I'm drawing a blank. If I think of more I will be sure to share. And if you have any questions at all, I would love to help! My first trip as an adult was April 2013 and like you said, I was hooked. Just took my 7th trip as an adult. And I'm moving there this summer!

Have fun with the planning!!!

You will not regret it! I just did my first solo trip this past December and had a wonderful trip, it was so nice to do what I want, when I wanted, without having to worry about anyone else!

Am trying to figure out when my next solo trip will be, LOL!

At AKL I like to go down to the Savannah viewing area and talk with the guides about the Animals and also about what countries the guides are from. After dark they have night vision binoculars to use. In the parks I like to take my time and really SEE everything, all the little details that a group might rush past. Do the free 4:00 chefs African restaurants tasting tour at Jambo House. Sign up for a Magic Kingdom tour, and a Living with the land tour. It's a good way to break up your day of being alone. Also, make any dining reservations you want. It's fine to do table service solo. It's easy to pass the time in a restaurant while waiting to be served by checking email, weather, park info, etc. I also like to text a friend and chat a little sometimes at meals. Have Fun! You're gonna like it!

Congrats on booking your first solo trip. I would suggest at AKV when you check in at the front desk ask for a list of the special programs offered at the resort during your stay. Some of the items that could be offered are animal viewing with night vision, animal tracking, cultural safari, flamingo feedings and various storytelling just to name a few. Personally one of my favorite things to do is exploring the lobbies of the various deluxe resorts. Have a great time.
