Just off the Wonder

Thank you for the trip report. I have enjoyed what I've read so far. We are in your parent's exact cabin in two weeks!

Thank you for the trip report. I have enjoyed what I've read so far. We are in your parent's exact cabin in two weeks!

Its a GREAT cabin, super convenient location, good condition, and great view. I didn't use the elevator much at all, was easy to walk and burn off those calories!

@Richard Howren As I looked around the ship, I saw a lot of "deferred maintenance" issues. Lots of wood that needs to be re-varnished. At one point I had a handrail that wasn't attached on a staircase (mismatching ends all over the place). The teak decking is pretty beat up. I think "tired" is the best way to describe her right now. Not rundown. Not unsafe. Just in need of some TLC.

That being said. I can't wait to see what they do in dry dock. Both my wife and I preferred the AK cruise to anything we've done in the Caribbean (All three of the other ships). I also prefer the smaller ship.

We have been planning this trip for six months now. Just one more month to go. I have been totally consumed with the whole idea. I watch the Disney cruise ships when in port and when they leave. I have relived this trip over and over vicariously through my computer with many YouTube videos. We are first timers but, we wish to feel like seasoned veterans. I work in the transportation industry and well know that multiple repeated uses of the vessel will place much wear and tear on the inner workings. That is to be expected. I take that into account. And, the same goes for the crew. It has got to be tough to keep up the liveliness week in and week out. My hat is off to them. I am real sure that all will be just great and memorable. The Wonder holds a special place in my heart.

Loving your report! We were just a few doors down from you. Loved your families door decorations. Did you make them?

No, I am not crafty at all so I had a woman from another site that we are not supposed to mention make them for me, they were very helpful for my parents especially who could not remember their room number to save their lives.

Having sailed the Magic a few cruises before she went to Dry Dock and again a few cruise after. I can say some of the changes were for the better (ie raising the beds so suitcases fit under them, replacing the refrigerators, etc... but some also took away some of the classic charm (IE atrium decor, aquadunk, etc....). I hope they learned from that and don't try upgrade the elements give the classic ship feel.

Don't get me wrong the Magic was still magical after dry dock it just lost some charm....
