Just off the Dream: Deck Chair HOGS

saved.jpg

So.....are we chair hogs? Just wondering.

We get up to the deck around 8. Put our bags on some lounge chairs. Eat breakfast, which doesn't even last a half hour because we are fast eaters. Go back to our chairs. Lounge, dip, aquaduck (on and off throughout the day), lunch at our chairs, and periodic bathroom breaks. Never attend any other ship function throughout the day. We stay in the vicinity pretty much from 8-3.

I don't feel we are chair hogs. We get there early and stay there late. I know the late comers don't like people like us but why should we give up our chairs because they get to the pool late after sleeping in or attending a cooking session or whatever?

I vote not hogs. :thumbsup2

Yes, of course you are. The act of saving the chairs makes you a chair hog. pirate:

Cheers!

Max, if I had not typed lunch at our chairs and typed we eat lunch at the lounge chair would that have been more acceptable?

You asked the question, not me. I'm not trying to be rude, but if you don't want other peoples opinion, don't ask. ::rolleyes:

I see an earlier poster didn't think you were a chair hog, I happen to think you are. I'm not saying your a bad person, you're probably a very wonderful person.

No Max. I'm sorry if you thought I was picking on you. I wasn't. I was just wondering if the verbage made a difference.

If your butt is not in the chair.... you are a chair hog! If you leave the chair, you lose the chair. Items are not claim to a seat. Do not expect your chair to be waiting for you when you get back from doing something else. If you want the chair... USE it. It is policy that you can not reserve a chair... it is only common sense that if you are not in it, you lose it.

That logic is extreme and flawed ... If you have to go and take a leak you should forfeit your chair?? Ridiculous.

However, I do agree that the act of going early, putting stuff down to claim chairs, then going to breakfast first (even if you eat fast) is in and of itself a rude act and makes one a chair hog. You are not ready to use the chair yet and you are 'claiming' it ahead of time. There is no 'reserving' of chairs unless DCL decides to make even more money charging people to be able to reserve chairs ahead of time (perhaps booked through shoreside concierge - joking).

If you CANNOT SEE the chair you put items on because you are away from the chair then its NOT your chair the one in your stateroom or closet is. If its been 15-30 minutes and you did not tell the person near you to hold this chair to go the bathroom or quick dip the CHAIR becomes FOR ALL GUEST to ENJOY.

Its about NOT being a Jerk.

Your shoes and towels are not on vacation a human that paid to enjoy a cruise did.

It seems to me that this could be easily fixed with a time limit rule--not for folks who are occupying the seats, but for those empty "reserved" seats. I like the idea of the lost and found after 60 minutes.

The lockers they have installed at the "Vibe" teen deck would probably have been a great idea at the family swim area as well.

The lockers are not only on the VIBE deck but also in the bathrooms in the vibe. Very useful.

I too am one who would rather just have a place to put my things while I swim, but since the only thing Disney offers is a chair, that is what I use while I swim. The times I have tried to put things up around the adult pool on the seats there they get soaked. When we do this I normally find ONE chair for both of us (in the adult area) or the whole family (in the family pool area), we have a pool at home so we do not tend to stay but for a short time and all I really want is a place (dry) place to put my shoes, coverup, key. Maybe they could add a "swim" check :) like a coat check to the pool area - jk - a cubbie would be nice!

One idea is for everyone when you sail (any of the ships) to put on the comment cards to put cubbies/lockers in around the pool areas like in the vibe - if enough people comment on it maybe they will take notice - worth a try!

I guess my question now is this: what happens when you want to swim in the pool or ride the AquaDuck after lounging for awhile...what do you do with your shirt, room key, lotion, etc. then? Leave it on a lounger, you're a chair hog. Leave it on a chair at a table, you're a chair hog. Leave in somewhere else (like on a trash can), the chance of it getting stolen is higher. Are we expecting people to go back and forth from their room each time they want to take a dip so they can drop off the items they aren't taking in the pool with them, but might want close by (like the items listed earlier)? I'm not trying to stir the pot, I'm just genuinely wondering what you're expected to do?

After 5 pages of this I have to ask... can I just toss the towel on the ground BY the chairs and lay out on that? I don't want to get involved! :lmao:

If I see a chair with an item on it and no one is around I will ask a cast member to remove the article so I can use the chair. I find it rude to save a chair. Society has become so ME ME ME... parents are teaching their kids to become selfish and unaware of others around them, to share or to be polite. There are only so many chairs, use one if you want and if there is one available but expect one to be there waiting for you.

I suggest you take 1 chair, move it away from the table. This way you have a dry place to put your things and you are not taking up a lot of space.

This thread is why I think they did not make the pools bigger. People want the chairs and loungers. There are no threads about pool hogs.

That's absolutely what most who are saying your "hogging" a chair are missing. If I have one chair for my son and I that means we have two pairs of shoes, a bag with our two shirts, 2 towels, 2 pairs of sunglasses, book, lotion, keys, lanyard, pins, you get the idea. We can't swim together? We can't go ride the aquaduck? That could easily be a half hour when crowded? That's my stuff on our chair. Why would I think it's not going to be there in the short time i'm not on my chair? Now I actually plan on clipping our towels to the chair and putting the strap of my bag through the chair to prevent a total stranger from making off with our stuff, but it's the point. I get that you shouldn't be leaving your chair(s) for hours on end just to make sure it's yours, but if i'm using it, it's mine!

if you leave your thinks on a chair that does not mean they won't get stolen so why bring valuables poolside,

No Max. I'm sorry if you thought I was picking on you. I wasn't. I was just wondering if the verbage made a difference.

:grouphug: Thanks! I don't know if the verbage makes a difference or not. I am enjoying the different posts on the "rules" of what makes a chair hog.

I think this might have the makings of a comedy routine. ...You might be a chair hog.

For example, if you bring your mother-in-law on the cruise, just to save seats, you might be a chair hog!

OK, that's not very funny, but you get my drift.

Cheers!

Max

If youre in the pool and have your items on a chair youre legit. If youre going to the restroom and only gone for a few minutes, youre legit.

When the wife and I are using chairs, one of us always stays with the chairs, unless we're both in the pool. If one of us has to use the restroom, the other stays with the chairs. If we're thirsty, I may go get srinks at the drink station while DW stays at the chairs. At least one of us is there while the other is only gone for a brief time. IMO, this is reasonable since we staying with the chairs. If we think we're gonna be gone for a while, we offer our chairs up to someone else.

We hang out in the quiet cove alot.
