I had previously sailed on the Disney Dream and Celebrity Silhouette, and I would rank this as my favorite cruise yet! I was concerned about the small size of the Magic, but it turned out to be the Magic's greatest asset. It was easily navigable and utilized its spaces very well. Sure, the atrium was much smaller, but I never found it to be inadequate.

The ship was gorgeous and only showed its age in a few areas: the verandas (chipping paint, etc.) and stateroom bathrooms (old tile, poor water pressure in the shower, etc.) are the two that immediately come to mind.

We have only a few minor complaints. Our A/C seemed to become less effective as the week went on. However, this could be a result of increasing temperatures. Additionally, around the ship and sometimes even in our room, we would detect smells of motor oil (likely diesel exhaust); but this was never bad enough for us to complain. I did not care for the pirate party, as I just don't care to see adult cast members dancing around for an extended time. I like Mickey's surprise entrance and the fireworks, but I wish they would make it more of scripted show and leave the dancing for after the fireworks. Finally, I found the adult entertainment to be a little lacking... but isn't this always the case? The adult-centered shows were a little cheesy and left a lot to be desired. Trivia is fun, but after doing it three times, it gets a little old. I loved the look of the 3 adult venues. I never was able to enjoy a drink in Keys, and it seemed to be empty most of the time.

And now, the highlights. The service was awesome! The standouts were our stateroom attendant (forgot his name), dining server (Bojan), assistant server (Maria), and staff from the kids' clubs. My nephew LOVED the Oceaneer's Club/Lab, and I was a bit jealous of the youngsters' awesome play areas. The Christmas décor was beautiful, especially in the atrium. The food was generally above average in all three dining rooms. Brunch in Palo was spectacular! On deck, the pizza, schwarma, and spicy chicken sandwich were wonderful. As for the shows, Tangled and Disney Dreams were both fantastic... Dreams might be the most bang-for-your-buck hour of theater in the history of live performances. Twice Charmed was nothing special, but the magician on pirate night was pretty entertaining. Being able to take my nephews to see a new movie, The Good Dinosaur, in the movie theater was pretty special. However, there were many adults in there acting quite immature and nasty because of their arriving late and not finding a seat. Come on people, set a good example for your kids!

I think I covered everything. Please let me know if you have any questions!

It's always the adults isn't it :sad2:. On a side note, I will be on the New England cruise on the Magic. It will be the last of the four ships for my family. SO EXCITED and my DS can't wait to see the Avenger area!!!!!!

Welcome back! Thanks for sharing your experience. Would you mind sharing your stateroom category and/or deck location?

Thanks! We had a veranda room, mid-ship, on Deck 7. Stateroom 7578. I'm afraid I do not remember which category it was. We had other family members in 7580 and 7582, and we were able to remove/fold back the balcony dividers between the rooms.

I was on the same cruise and agree with most everything. :) I managed to eat more than anyone in my party and am now on a serious diet, so the food was excellent. I was actually sad at the Palo Brunch that I could not manage to eat more because it was so yummy. The service was outstanding and we sure lucked out on the weather! I only managed to catch Twice Charmed and Tangled. Both were good. The Good Dinosaur was good, but I cried much of the movie. For me, it was a little bit of a tearjerker, but I am sensitive. I wanted to try some adult areas, but never got to it.

That leads me to the amazing amount of things to do on the ship. If you are on a Very Merry cruise, you may be trying to cram the following into just the day you arrive: lunch, kids' club open house, DVC member event, safety drill, sail away party, Tree Lighting, dinner, Santa arrival and trying to get your child into kids club to play that evening. That was the list I tried to follow the first day, and sadly, I ended up missing the sail away party. I totally forgot with everything else going on! Other days weren't quite as busy, but we are already working on planning our next cruise. I have a list of things I still want to try.

Glad you had as much fun as we did!

I'll be on the Magic tomorrow! Pretty excited, it's my husband's first ever cruise. We've been in rainy Florida for a week and are really hoping for good weather.

I've never been on a Disney Cruise but have been on a few Celebrity cruises. When you say the adult entertainment was lacking, that's a concern for me. Did you find it to be less interesting/fun for adults than the Celebrity cruise you were on?
Can you be more specific on what was lacking? Obviously, I'm a big Disney fan but I don't have kids and don't want to feel like I'm at the weird adults table.

I think what they might be referring to about "adult entertainment lacking" is that DCL really doesn't schedule a diverse amount of things for adults on any of the ships. There is the Art of Entertainment, that includes the food demonstrations, The Art of the Theme (or whatever it is called) which is the tours behind the scenes of the theatre, and mostly there are tasting classes. If you like to drink, you could stay busy all day with their champagne tasting, beer tasting, wine tasting, mixology. I know on Celebrity and RCCL and Princess, we had different things to do during the day from naturalist talks (depending on itinerary), to crafting classes, to demonstrations. Disney kind of lacks in that area.

What is the date of this cruise?

We absolutely love Maria as our assistant server. On our last two cruises we had Maria and Bojan once, and Maria and....can't remember her name...the other time.

We are seriously considering asking for Maria on our next cruise. The kids absolutely loved her too - our (then) 2yo called her Ria-Ria.

Glad they were awesome for you too!

Do you know if Christy from New Zealand was still in the Oceaneers Club / Lab? My daughter still asks about her.

Like other posters have said, Disney is very family-centered, and that is not a bad thing, as it certainly satisfies a huge cruising niche. The Celebrity cruise I went on was definitely more adult-oriented, and almost all activities were adult-centered (production shows, nighttime comedians, shopping, casino, etc.). I would not let it stop you from trying Disney, however, as the quality of the food and service make it all worthwhile. If you're a huge Disney fan, well, that's just icing on the cake!

Then I'm afraid I have some bad news for you. Maria was not present on our last two nights because she was dealing with an injured shoulder. On the final morning, Bojan told us that she was likely leaving the ship to return home to get medical care. I'm hoping this is not the case and that she is alright. Still might be worth requesting her, if you enjoyed her that much, in case she remained onboard and in service.

What time did you arrive at the terminal? Do you know what time they opened? What time did they start boarding?

We arrived at right around 11:20. They probably didn't start boarding until around 11:45 or 12:00. The terminal was not crowded, and the line to the counter was nonexistent. I don't know if we were lucky, or if this is standard.

We were on this cruise as well...in 7564 so very close to you OP! We had beautiful weather, great service, and really enjoyed the cruise. We actually love trivia so we did that a every opportunity, and two of us were chosen for "So, you want to be a Mousekeeter?" which was awesome. We ended up winning a ridiculous amount of Disney "medals", keychains, water bottles, tote bags, etc.....I wish they would have given us free drinks instead because that bar bill really added up quickly :crazy2:. The only negative for us was the 10 year-old we travelled with (two families, 5 kids in total) wasn't allowed into the Edge so our 11-year old didn't go either. The 2 older boys found themselves easily bored with the club/lab so would text to leave fairly quickly. We definitely don't blame anyone for that situation as we knew it was a possibility but it was a downer nonetheless.

I forgot to mention that I thought that the adult pool area on the Magic was far superior to that on the Dream. So much more space to move around and (seemingly) fewer children walking through.
