Just not worth it!

This past trip we had my MIL with us and she was in a wheelchair (she has cancer) and we found a good spot for Wishes over an hour before Showtime and just as it started these 4 teenage girls and their mothers squeezed right in front of her. I tried to force them to move but they wouldn't budge and there was no CM around to help. I was soooo angry.

We will no longer sit on the curb for an hour for the parades and fight hoards of last minute arrivers who push and step on our heads and squeeze on top of us. We will just watch from a distance. Just not worth it.

I couldn't agree more. The last time I went to Disney, I traveled with my brother's family and our parents. They wanted to see every parade that was available. We probably ended up losing a couple of hours each day just to park out on the street so we could get a good spot for the parades. And yes, about 10 minutes before the parade was to start, you would end up with people trying to shove their way past you to see. We were as close to the curb as we could go with my niece's stroller, and people would still try to get in front. Just when you think you've kept one group from getting through, you'll find that someone else has sneaked up from the other side. Ridiculous. By the second half of the trip my dad and I left the others and went on rides while they waited.

People send their kids to the front to push through and basically either sit on people's laps or push little kids out of the way and force them back into the crowd away from the curb.

That's crazy! Kid or not, I'm not afraid to say something.

People will walk up and try to stand right in front of you if you let them get away with it. Seriously!

Ooooh...for some sick reason, this thread makes me WANT to sit for a parade just to dare someone to try to sit in front of me or my family. Wouldn't happen uh no. :scratchin

I used to think that the nighttime parade/fireworks jostling at the Magic Kingdom was ugly. Then we went to Disneyland Paris last summer. What goes on over there makes WDW look like a kumbayafest.

I have never encountered this...We always watch the parade in froniterland and have never has any issues as stated on here. I think the internet brings out the VERY rare issues and exploits them into something their not. We stand and have never had anyone go in front of us. I would not allow it..unless it was a small child and id let the lad in from of me to see.

We have seen a number of posts here that Frontierland is the place for parade fans to gather for a good view without a fight. Oh-oh is the secret out for people who have enjoyed their peace and quiet over there?

I think that parade times are great times to go eat at places that are booked up for reservations.

I either sit on the curb (or right at the rope) or I stay waaaay back. The jostling isn't worth the headache.

I no longer sit and wait for any of the parades. But, there are exceptions. I do enjoy the MVMCP parade. So, last Dec, my friend and I got to a nice spot along the route about 40 mins prior to the start. She had stood in the same spot for the Halloween parade, so knew we could stand there. Right outside LTT, next to a trash can and light pole. The CM came along and put up the rope, from the light pole and down along the route. So, I'm standing right next to the light pole, where there is about a foot of space, front to back. The space got a bit wider as the rope went along for about 12', then it hit the sidewalk area and widened up quite a bit. So, my friend is next to me, the curb is right behind me with a ton of landscaping on the curb. We were joined by a nice family of about 5, so all the room was pretty much taken up by the time we were 30 mins out from the parade start.

Well, a few minutes later, a group comes up and asks us to scootch over so they can stand there too!!! Ah, no, not happening. There is no room for anyone else!!! They grumbled and walked away muttering about rude people. A trio came along and asked if we could step back just a bit so they could sit along the street. We told them that they would be asked to move since you can't be sticking out from under the rope. They weren't happy.
Then a family of about 6 came along, 5 mins prior to the start of the parade. Asked if we would please squeeze over so they could watch the parade. We told them absolutely not....they told us then that there was plenty of room if we all moved to the right. Ah no. We told them that if watching from a good spot was important to them, then perhaps they should find a spot earlier than 5 mins prior to the start. We said this very nicely adding that we had been there for 40 mins.
Another family came along and took up their spot on the other side of the light pole. A CM came along and told them to please move, that standing there wasn't allowed. The wife then said that they should ask us to move so they could squeeze in..dh said no, just move on.
We were right on the turn that the parade takes at LTT and Hall of Presidents. So the CMs were being very strict about having people sticking out at that point.
It just infuriated me to have so many people come along and think they were entitled to just jump in anywhere. I started off very pleasantly, but man, as more and more people came along to 'squeeze in', I got snippier and snippier!!

We watch the parade in Frontierland and have always gotten lucky with a great spot and have only had to wait a half hour or so. As far as MSEP I don't care for it, so we work on finding a good spot to view the fireworks during that time.

A couple of trips ago, we had a great spot right by the turkey leg stand in Frontierland plenty of room all around us. Of course another family comes and, fine plenty of room, until the parade starts coming by and their kid is standing ON our stroller with my youngest DD in the stroller! Umm get your kid off mine please, parents just laughed didn't even move him. I should have picked up DD and let the stroller flip over.

SSHHHHHHH!!!!! Don't tell them the frontierland parade secret!!!!! :)

Seriously, we will only fight for a MVMCP Parade seat on Main Street. We always watch MSEP from frontierland. My daughter loves it because its VERY close to us!

This is the same feeling I have towards fireworks and most night shows. Got into to many frustrating situations with people over "space". worst being 4th of July when three Brits decided to stand right in front of us as we were sitting , waiting , patiently for more then an hour for the fireworks. And it was completely ruined by these three. Words were had, tensions were high, Never again. Watching from the back / from a distance is fine by us.

I agree, it is just not worth it. We tried watching last year and were about 2 or 3 people back; it was my two DD and myself. This woman came with her son and she pushed her son in front of us and stepped right in. I said, very nicely, "M'aam we are standing here, you just can't push your way in front of us." She was clearly embarrassed and left. I would actually love to watch a parade because we have never sat to watch, but I don't like to fight the crowds.

But for every one rude person we encounter in Disney, we find three more willing to hold doors, share tables during a crush, watch out for 'lost' little ones, and start a friendly chat or share Disney 'secrets' in an overly long character line.

I love the way you look at it :)

Yeah I thought that too! The sad thing is that confrontation is still the one big thing that sticks out on my many trips to the world. It got ugly and others around me thought I was the instigator. It was like watching a bad movie where the bad guy won.:worried: It was not worth it! I am with the OP it all is just not worth it.

If you really want to see the parade though...... A solid NO ususally does the trick. Sometimes a second NO and then pretty much ignoring any response they would have will make them move along. We who follow proper Disney parade etiquette must preserve our rights for the future generations !!::yes:: There's always someone new you may bring and you want to show them Disney at it's best and the parade is part of it. I have this very situation this coming May with a newbie on our trip. After reading here I'm guessing we'll hit Frontierland area for best odds of confrontation free viewing though.:duck:

Is it this way all the time?
We are going the last week in Febuary, DD loves parades & was looking forward to seeing the Electric Parade & the others, not into Wishes, she does not like Fireworks.
Hearing this makes me wonder if we should even try.:confused3
I had already read in a touring guide that the best place was Frontierland, so that was not a surprise.
We have enough DRAMA at home, We do not need it on vacation too!!:rotfl:
