What does it matter??? really that is their house and their stuff and they have every right to do what they want....sorry to sound so harsh but still it is their house...I guess to me I don't even notice things like that...

It's been up since November 1st, and was up with the inflatable Frosty, which he took down... however Turkey Tom remains for reasons unknown...

Why not? With all the work that's involved in putting them up, I say keep them lit till the end of January..

We saw some earlier this evening that were lit up and they really didn't even look like "Christmas" decorations.. There were some icicle lights; snowflake lights; a lighted snowman; etc. - all of which are "winter" decorations - and very pretty to look at..

There were even still snowman decorations in my doctors office today.. Shudder the thought.. Snowman don't "disappear" just because Christmas is over - at least not in the northeast..

I agree. I'm still enjoying seeing the lights that have remained lit in my neighborhood.

While I don't have mine up, I still think it is a personal choice as it is their house..fwi though ..my dh is the one that is annal about taking the lights and stuff down like the day after..I have to say something to him if I want them to stay up

I always leave all of my stuff (tree included) up until my birthday, which is Jan. 19. The tree mainly stays up that long because it was such a PITA to get up and decorated in the first place; I might as well enjoy looking at it for a decent length of time!

We live in Wisconsin - so it is absolutely OK (IMO) to leave your lights up until the weather gets a little nicer.

OK - maybe my PSA should have read - if your outside Christmas decorations are ugly - they do not need to be turned on after mid-January. (Sorry - I've disliked these particular decorations, and they've had them for years.) The house is just across the street from ours.

I see X-mas lights up too - and some are quite lovely. (I take DD to practice about 20 minutes away from our house.) I just get the UGLY ones by my house.

We have dancing lights and while they've been off since Jan. 6, 2 friends stopped by tonight and we turned the lights on for them to see. They're off again now.

It's Maine, it's cold. The lights will come down when it's warm enough to do so without gloves. It's really hard to take down 17,000 lights with gloves on. Trust me.

My grandmother had a normal Christmas tree that was only used seasonally, but she also had a wall tree that she decorated for each holiday. I had just picked up a bunch of cute new 4th of July decorations for her to use when we learned that she'd suffered a massive aneurysm on July 2, 2005. When she passed away, I inherited the tree. I keep it up on one of my walls year-round and now mainly decorate it in sports teams' colors and ornaments--right now, it's done up in blue and gold for Blues hockey (the Rams were so pitiful this year, they don't merit any decorations!) and once spring training starts, it'll be decked out in red and white for the Cardinals.

We always turn ours off after the 6th, (the day of Epiphany) but the only reason they aren't still up is because we had a dry day when it was convenient for us to take them down. If we hadn't, they'd still be up.

Although no one in our neighborhood still turns them on, lots of houses still have them up. The weather has not been friendly!

On a technicallity, in the church liturgical year the season of Epiphany (also known as a season of light) lasts until Lent starts. Although hanging lights isn't really traditional at this time, I'd think one could get away with claiming religious reasons for doing so!

Before I even saw this thread - I was actually a little sad tonight. There's a 'just-right'-decorated house on my way home from work. Not overdone, not underdone, just perfect for the house and the neighborhood.

They must have taken everything down earlier in the day
