Just my observation....

I observed the exact same thing, and when people asked me about my cruise compared to other lines, that is what I told them. When we pulled into Nassau, the other cruise ships looked dirty on the outside. The Dream looked impeccable.

In fairness, the dark hulls of Disney ships make it a lot more difficult to see surface rust than the white hulls of other cruise lines.

But they're also constantly painting it too :-)

We're sailing on the Dream again the end of April, I'm going to take some pics of these other ships for everyone so we can have them in this thread. I'm not kidding when I say that the Carnival ship that was parked next to us in Nassau in January had plastic wrap in place of several of their windows!

My first cruise on the Fantasy had plastic over one of the large port hole windows on deck 3. It broke while we were cruising and the glass repair company was unable to find us in the Caribbean to replace it while we were cruising. It had to wait until we returned to PC. People in St Thomas and St Maarten could have said the same about DCL.

I agree DCL does a great job at keeping their ships looking great just as the parks almost always look great, but it's not always that way. One year at California Adventure, there was a shoe that someone threw on the top of the Silly Symphony Swings cue, it was up there for at least 8 weeks plain as day, I saw it every time I rode the swings and I told several CM's about it.

The Fantasy had a large porthole covered with heavy, translucent vinyl in December when we were onboard. The window had been shattered at some point (my wife saw it. I didn't.) and they were using the heavy vinyl to cover the window.

I was on back in June 2013 so it must happen somewhat often. I wonder what the heck can cause that???

I googled broken cruise ship windows and surprisingly the majority of the results said they were broken from a wave hitting them but I can't imagine that happening on a window high up (unless it was a really bad storm. Maybe birds hitting them? Idk on this one.

There's no way this was a wave as it was deck 4 just aft of the WD Theatre. This was somebody falling into the glass most likely.

I recall cruising on RCI's Grandeur of the Seas in April 2009. A friend of mine was on the Magic at the same time, and our ships were docked next to each other in Tortola. The Disney Magic's exterior was somewhat more attractive than my ship's, but I don't book cruises based on the ship's appearance. I didn't have Disney cruise envy because I knew that my RCI ship had the far better itinerary, and it cost less than half what my friend's Disney cruise cost.

I'm lounging comfortably in our Airbnb apartment in Buenos Aires, Argentina as I write this. My DH and I will board the Star Princess on Monday for a 2-week cruise around the Horn from Buenos Aires to Valparaíso, Chile. It will be my 5th Princess cruise, and by the way - I think their ships are beautiful. There's no wishing I were going on a Disney cruise in the Caribbean instead! :teeth:

As excited as I am about going on my first Disney Cruise, I have rather enjoyed my previous Carnival cruises. Inside is clean and the crew is very friendly. There was a little rust in the corner of the bathroom door frame in our stateroom, but she is older than the Magic and was scheduled for a dry dock at the end of the Alaska season, so she was due for a good deep clean. But all the public areas were impeccable and the covered pool was a great amenity! Plus our itinerary was to Glacier Bay (much more impressive than Tracy arm) and less than half the price, so all in all a better choice for us at the time, so we could splurge on once in a lifetime Excursions. And we noticed them cleaning outside while in Port.... So it's not like they don't do it

Actually, they were thinking, "I am so thankful I'm not stuck with all those unruly hoards of kids and uppity parents who dote on their 'special little snowflakes'! I'm so happy I'm on my fun ship! Let's go on the waterslide and then enjoy a Guy Fieri Burger."
Actually, we cruised without kids... she is 27, and had a great time in the adult areas and did not find any of the kids in the other areas unruly. We had a great time at Serenity Bay and also a nice day at sea. Loved our Disney cruise. We may have spent a bit more but the accommodations and quality of the service was 100% worth it. We were even impressed with the cleanliness of the public restrooms.
All the shows were entertaining and found everyone was respectful during the performances.
We will do a Disney cruise again.
