and can I just say how GLAD I am to be here?

We moved from Las Vegas, which has been 100+ degrees every day (ick!) and is brown and ugly. Now we are someplace nice and cool (my girls have been wearing sweatshirts here) that is beautiful and green and has lots of historical and cultural things to do. We are loving it here. My three DD's have never been to Virginia until now and they are so happy. :cloud9:

Do I have any DIS neighbors who live in this area?

Welcome! We're in Maryland, but not far since we're in the far suburbs of Washington DC (Montgomery County). We like it here, except for the cost of living. If you have any questions ask away. There's quite a few of us. Hopefully we'll get together again sometime. How old are your girls? My youngest son is 6yo, but my other kids are older--one boy in middle school, one in high school, and a DD in college.

Hello!! :sunny:

I just moved to Northern Virginia (Manassas) in December 2004, from South Florida (Ft.Lauderdale). We moved here b/c DH (DF at the time) got a good job here, he works in the Tyson's Corner area.

I like the area alot, but I don't know anybody, and growing up in South Florida, I'm not used to the winters. Also, the traffic is HORRIBLE. DH works about 20 miles away, and it takes him FOREVER to get home.

But anyway, welcome to the state :goodvibes Where do you live?

Welcome to Northern VA from another Northern VA'er!

Where are you? I am in Prince William County.

Oh, and it's usually much hotter this time of year. We are having a cool spell. Don't get too comfy! Although it's nothing compared to Las Vegas. You'll love the humidity when it gets started.

I'm originally from San Diego, but I have lived in the DC metro area for more than ten years. The weather may be cooler now than what you are accustomed to, but the humidity can be awful. That is one drawback to life on the East Coast. Otherise, I love the East Coast and it has become home for me.

Welcome to the area!

I lived in No. VA for 10 years! It has so much to offer. But you just wait till you're down town on one of those "humid" days - nothing sinks into all that cement! Ugh!

Welcome to Northern Virginia. I live in WV (about 40 miles away) but I work in Loudoun County, Virginia. We moved here from SC and the weather is a lot nicer. No humidity, at least not as much as SC.

First Hi T&B (we've met before)

I live on the MD side but, yes this area is so cool. With the amount of museums and stuff it's almost like living on vacation.

and yes the traffic is horrible and the cost of homes are outrageous but I've almost come to just accept it...

I have a DD who just turned 13 (going into 8th grade).

Welcome to the area.

Welcome to the DC area. I am in Montgomery Co., MD. I moved her about 3 years ago and still hate it. My DH, on the other hand loves it. I hope you do too.

Hey UMTerp, I grew up in Maryland too. More specifically, the ever-so-beautiful P.G. County. Also living in VA now!

Another NcVA resident checking in! I've been here nine years now and I love it. I can honestly say I will have a very hard time leaving when it's time. The traffic is deplorable and the weather can be downright vicious (humidity) but otherwise there is nowhere I'd rather be.

Welcome!!!

:thumbsup2 You're right - there's SO much to do and I'm thankful my son has the opportunity to see all there is around here! Interestingly, we've found that many of his friends who are "natives" have never been into DC, gone to the monuments, etc. IMHO it's a neat place for a kid to grow up. Now ask me how I feel later when it's time for him to learn to drive in this traffic.....

Hope you continue to enjoy living here, even when we get our "normal" summer weather!

It is too far from the two things I love best in the world: NYC and the beach.

I'm in Woodbridge. (Not sure whether to insert "smilie" or "frownie" here).

Don't get too attached to the cool weather, it won't be here long.
