Just making sure...Air Tran carry-on size?

On Air Tran's website, it says 55 inches? Is this right? Given that their checked baggage dimensions are so stingy, I find it almost too good to be true that they are pretty generous with their carry-on dimensions. We switched from Delta (45 inches), so this seems huge in comparison!

Also, we had been planning on a wheely suitcase plus one personal item (school-type backpack for under seat, or camera bag) for each of us. This is OK on Air Tran too, right?

Thanks!

Yes, 55" is the typical size of a roll-onboard (remember it's length + width + thickness) and it's because all Airtrain's jets are 737 types with full size overhead bins while other airlines reduced the size to allow for region jets.

The personal item can be the size of a purse, small canvas bag or a backpack that is small and not overstuffed - it must fit under the seat in front of you.

FYI, AirTran also flies Boeing 717s...they're the ones with 2 seats on one side and 3 on the other. So you might get one of those instead. I've found that the bins on the 2 seat side aren't quite as big as the 3 seat side.
