:cool1:

I just made my first ressie, and I got everything I wanted on the first shot!!

We will be staying in a ocean view inn @ Vero from September 27-30 and then moving to a studio @ Old Key West from the 30- October 4th.

I can't believe how dorkishly excited I am!!

Now that might just be a perfect vacation.... Congratulations :thumbsup2

Dork, dork, dork, you're a dork :beach: A happy dork.

Congratulations- it IS exciting, isn't it!! You are a DORK, but not to worry, because I believe all of us here are, so you're in great dorkish company!!:thumbsup2

We're also going to be at OKW for our first DVC trip... incidentally for the same time period. Awesome.

It must be the brain waves in the city!

I see you are in DC... I am in Alexandria/Springfield, and actually most nice days at lunch time I eat while watching DC from the top of my office buidling. I get some pretty nice views up there...

:cloud9: I am such a dork!!

Congrats on the quitting smoking!!!

So it looks like you are a great person to tell me about Vero.... any tips or special things I should do in my few days there??

I am a beach girl, I could lay reading all day with no problems, but I am up for sight seeing as well... Any suggestions??

I'm sure! The buildings over in Alexandria can be taller than the buildings here so I bet the views are nicer. My office building is a few blocks from the White House. Our top floor terrace has some nice views of the Capitol Building and the Washington Monument, but that's about it.

That is awesome! I would love to be right there in the middle of everything...

Right now I am over by the USPTO.

I am trying to decide whether to come into the city or not... DC firms pay better, but I get panic attacks on Metro so it would mean I would have to drive....

Driving to DC in the morning is no fun, from what I understand. I live downtown a few blocks from the Capitol Building so I can often just walk to work (although it's getting hot enough outside now where that isn't very fun either). Working in DC is pretty cool though. What kind of work do you do?

I am support staff at a IP law firm. I'm in school for a paralegal degree as well.

Oh cool. I'm a lawyer. I work at a general firm downtown.

I wish I could become a lawyer... It was my dream, but I don't have the confidence in myself to go to law school. I need to learn to apply myself and re-become the student I used to be.

An associate at the firm I am at told me (today actually) that I can read my way onto the bar in Virginia....

Sometimes I ask myself whether becoming a lawyer was a great decision. I bill a lot of hours and work all the time, but sometimes the work is interesting enough that I really enjoy it. Often it's just tedious. If you set your mind to it, I'm sure you could go to law school. I loved law school...miss it every day. The question is whether you really want to do what the associates at your firm do on a daily basis.

It's true that you can do law office study in lieu of law school in Virginia, but very few people actually take this path. They also tend to not do so well on the bar exam. The traditional law school path is the easiest to being admitted to the bar. It's also nice that there are so many law schools in the DC area: Georgetown, GWU, GMU, American, Catholic, UDC, etc.

I actually just read up on it myself...
When I step back and look at the big picture, I feel I may miss some of the important things to me, like staying at home and raising my children just for a big paycheck, but then I think about the things that really interest me and it makes me want to do it a lot. I wouldn't do patent law. It wouldn't keep my interest as much as other aspects. I keep telling myself that its definitely no Law and Order episode.

I think I would be the most bored and depressed lawyer in the world if I did patent law... but that's just me. Being a lawyer is definitely nothing like a Law and Order episode. I tell my friends that I basically do homework for a living. I research and write papers. I report my findings to the clients. Most of what I do is advisory work so there's not much in the way of courtroom or adversarial work. I like it that way.

You do have it down right though... the paychecks are good but the pressure on your time is often not worth the trade-off.
