Just lost my reservation

I have made changes to reservations several times, and Member Services has always warned me that a reservation can be lost while trying to book another one. I have a hard time believing that they didn't warn you of that possibility. And if they didn't, you have a legitimate gripe. I could be looking into this too far, but my guess is that they did tell you, which is why you are bummed out but not downright angry. I would be angry if that happened without a warning. My experience, though, suggests that you got the standard warning.

No warning ... And the only other time I switched they rebooked first then cancelled...so I thought that was the new standard procedure. But you don't have to believe me...

So sorry that happened to you Tiffany- I hope that you will priority waitlist, and that it will come through for you. If not, I promise to do my BEST to cheer you up the month before on our cruise! :dance3: Thanks for bringing this MS flaw to our attention!

YEAH for our cruise!!! Can't wait!!!!! It will be our first 7-night with Disney and I bet it will be way way more fun than the short 3-nighters we've done! I need to start planning for it tho

I never got a warning, and I wasn't angry, I was stunned. The CM who was working with me got off the line, was away for awhile, she was surprised to, and believe me, she tried to get one of the things back.

All I can say is wow. I had no idea this could happen. We are going to try to switch at our 7-month mark but now I am a bit worried about doing so!

It happened to us last summer. We were warned but I was also told that there were still 4 rooms available for the original room I had booked and thought it was a good chance that I would get back something if the new room got snagged.

It did and so did those 4 other rooms. I ended up getting it back a few days later, but I hated the thought of losing it.

When we went to switch at 7 months this year (again, summer), I asked and was told that there was no issue in changing the rooms.

I know, however, from now on, that if I am doing it at a vulnerable time, I will always ask that the new room get booked first, and then the old one cancelled.

OMG.....I"m so sorry this happened to you. How awful! I know at the 7 month mark, I usually have my airline tickets booked, so my dates are written in stone and I need a room regardless!

I first read about this possibility on another thread recently and it is so shocking. Thank you all for posting about your experiences.

I have AKV booked for early December, but wanted to spend a few days at BLT, so I have that time waitlisted. I was originally trying to call to get that time booked, but I think I'll wait to see if the waitlist request is filled. I can't take the chance of losing my original reservation.....our airline tickets are bought and paid for!

It seems that going the waitlist route is safe. I don't remember anyone here saying that they waitlisted and lost both choices. So, as flawed as some feel the waitlist system is, it has that advantage. DVC does that right! :thumbsup2

I almost feel it is safer to just ask to be put on the waitlist and then let the system make the change. Once a wait list matches, you know you get the new room as it is taken out of inventory.

I think you have less of a chance to lose something doing it this way. Of course, if it is something you really want, then you may lose out but it sounds like switching during the early December time is pretty risky.

Can anyone tell me if they think switching Presidents week is a risky time to be switching? Can I just call at my 7 month mark and request the waitlist instead? Thanks!

OP, sorry that you lost the reservation; I can imagine how frustrating that would be.

I see the recommendation to request that MS books the change first and then cancels the existing reservation. Has anyone been told that this can't be done? I'm just curious why this wouldn't be standard procedure if so many do it. :confused3

Oh that so sucks. Now you have me nervous as well. We are hoping to switch at 7 months. I am trying to decide if I should just cancel what I have now, since I really don't want what I have anyway, and just try for anything at 7 months.

I had booked a 2bd and DH said no since we couldn't get a dedicated he wants only 1 escape route for the kids LOL.

So would I have better luck if I just canceled what I have now?

Hopefully your waitlist comes through for you!

My question is a bit different, say I had MS book my new request at 5 months out before canceling my old ressie and I wanted to use my SSR points which are already holding the current ressie can I have them use my BLT points then once the old ressie is canceled (of course new ressie confirmed) can they realocate the points back to SSR so I still have BLT points for the 11 month booking later in the year?

This is just bizarre to me that they can't do this when you call to switch a ressie, but they have no problem doing it when they approve your waitlist...

OP - you are handling this in stride! Kudos!

If you have appropriate UY points without borrowing needlessly, that's what you should do and it can be done. But the problem is when you would have to borrow for the second reservation and perhaps the original reservation was booked with banked points, and then you have more points you need in the UY of the reservation.

Would the BLT points have to be borrowed to hold the SSR reservation? If you have to borrow the BLT points to hold, then they couldn't be put back in the UY they were in. If not, then MS could realocate the points that are used to hold the new reservation.

I know that this year for Presidents Week, which also was Daytona, I tried to book a room through DVC, nothing, then tried through Disney, needed 2 rooms. Could not even get them in the same resort. No discounts either. Full rack price. The parks were jammed full. It was like the peak of summer. The CM's were even commenting about it. Just crazy. I would tread cautiously, if it were me.

Not all MS people know all, you have to remind them before they go ahead and make the changes. Most of MS people are very good you got one that didn't have it all down.

My waitlist for Wilderness Lodge just came through!!!! That was quick!! So excited to be staying there for the Christmas time :cool1::cool1:

So since I had 2 waitlists and one came through does the other just go away? I am hoping it does - I am afraid to call and have something messed up.

:yay::yay:

That's great! Yes, the other waitlist disappears!
