Just left my Labbie girl at the animal hospital...

Poor baby, I hope she comes home feeling better soon!!

My lab, Blue, is on my feet right now as I'm reading this. I really hope she gets better soon.

Kathy - I sure hope everything gets better for her soon! Take it easy this weekend, and let us know how things go on Monday.

Hi!
Our 12 yr old black (mostly)female lab just had that surgery for what they called laryngial paralysis (sp?). It sounds like the same thing. It was a pretty straight forward operation. Our main concern was putting her through it at her advanced age. She's breathing much easier now :). PM me if you have any questions I can answer.
Good luck,
Renee

Renee, that's EXACTLY what it is!

She's back home, sleeping quietly now. I have tranquilizers and steroids to keep her calm and control swelling over the weekend.

We have the appointment with the Vet Surgeon Monday morning. The regular vet said that they suture something open to help the breathing- is that the laryngeal flap?

Just hearing that your dog was also older and that she's doing well is good. How long ago did she have the surgery?

So great that she was able to come home! I'm sure that alone will make her feel better.

Good luck with the surgeon Monday and hopefully it will be something that can make her more comfortable.

Sending prayers to Sambuca... from Molly, Baylee, Emy & Peanut Pugs in Alabama. :grouphug:

I have a mostly lab boy, albeit he's still a young dude. (He'll be two in November.)

I hear you loud and clear about the shadowing and laying on your feet while you're on the computer. Same thing happens here.

Sending lots of pup-sy dust your doggie's way! Here's hoping the vet can treat her effectively. :)

My labx is about 11. Thank you for posting this. She doesn't have a problem yet, but I won't panic if that happens. I'll know that something can be done for her. :)

Sambuca has my prayers.

She had the surgery about 3 weeks ago. I can't remember the medical terms but it sounds right. I was more concerned about her being in the cage at the vets than the surgery itself. She was a pound puppy and has always hated cages/crates. The breathing problem came on really gradually with our lab. Apparently she compensated for months by learning to shallow breath and slowly becoming less active so she lost muscle mass in her hind leg. As soon as the sutures came out (10 days after surgery) we began taking her on short walks every day to get her a bit stronger.

:hug:My thoughts are with you. I have been in your position before and it is very sad to not have your best friend with you. I pray everything turns out okay, and your best friend will be back laying at your feet in no time.

Im glad your doggie is resting comfortably, hope it goes good Monday

I'm so glad that Sambuca doesn't seem to have congestive heart failure. I hope she is home with you, again, soon.

{{{HUGS}}} sweetie.

P and PD for Sambuca...:wizard: :wizard: :wizard:
Best of luck on Monday. Keep us posted.

Kathy- Who is your vet?
We just got pound kitty(Sprinkles) from the FM Animal Center on 407 and a Chocolate Lab puppy(Jasmine) last weekend. They are both precious although I was certain my 3 times a night getting up to take care of babies was over. I have not slept through the night all week taking the puppy out every 3 hours and kitty deciding play time was 2-4:30 am! OK, OK it really was my DH getting up 3 times a night but he does wake me up when he gets up to tend to the girls. - New count in Brittain household now? 4 girls to 1 boy. Poor DH!
I sure think it's great that you are getting Sambuca ( named frm the restaurant?) the help she needs. I think that people who take care of Gods animals on earth have a special place in heaven
:D
Good Luck on Monday and keep us updated!
