Hello!

I am not new to the DIS, but I am to this board. I joined Curves last week and have worked out three times so far. I haven't really started a "diet" yet, but I have been trying to watch my intake of sugar/carbs and am drinking about 100 ounces of water a day.

I'm still trying to figure out the board and where I go to post updates and all that stuff so any help on how to get started is appreciated!

Thanks!

Well, you've already taken steps 1 and 2......Posting your intentions on the DIS WISH Challenge thread, and you've posted a thread! Welcome to WISH! ;)

As far as your updates go, you can start a thread whenever you want with those or, if you've joined a Challenge (weight loss and/or exercise) you can post there also. Whatever you prefer. :D

Some people keep journals up at the top of the board, if you like that idea, too.

So again, WELCOME, and jump right in!!!

Onward and Downward is our motto! ::yes::

:sunny:

Welcome to WISH!!! This is the best place to find support for your healthy lifestyle. Right now we are finishing up the September exercise challenge where we sign up to exercise for so many minutes in the month and then post our minutes. Rae Ann has been kind enough to keep track of our progress on the first page of the thread. We are having such fun with it that we will probably do one in October too....:)

We are also involved in the Gobble Up Success Thanksgiving challenge where we pledge on the thread to lose a specified amount of weight by Thanksgiving, then we post our results after our weekly weigh-in. Just find the thread and join in!

Reading the WISH journals is also a great way to get tips from others and it's so motivating to see that we all struggle with the same issues, but we are there to encourage each other to get back on plan when we stray!

Again welcome,
Jean

Shmoogrrl - Welcome to WISH (and to Curves)! Curves offers 6 week weight loss challenges fairly often. You may want to start there. Their program offers both calorie counting or carb counting that is very similar to South Beach. The last class at my CUrves averaged about 7 pound per person over 6 weeks and I know some people who had been working out at Curves for a few months lost over 10 by following the diet too! Just a thought.

Welcome aboard!

How do you like Curves so far? Right now I'm enjoying this awesome fall weather we are having, and am doing my running out doors. However, I was considering Curves for the colder months that are just around the corner. Would love to hear how you like it. Thanks! And welcome.

Welcome to WISH!

Kim is right, you have already taken steps one and two, so you are on your way. There is a wide variety of programs here (Weight Watchers, South Beach, Atkins etc) and a vast amount of knowledge and experience so stop by often the support truly is wonderful here.

Thanks to everyone!

So far I really like Curves, althugh that Squat machine is EVIL. :) The workout is quick and I feel like I am getting a good workout. The problem I can see in the future is getting bored with the same thing all the time. Hopefully that won't happen!

I'm thinking about attending some Jazzercise classes as well on "off Curves" days for the extra workout!

Dieting is a little tricky for me since I am a type II diabetic. My Endo doesn't like the low carb diets that send you into Ketosis, and it seems that the Curves diet is like that (the carb one, at least!) so I have a diet that I followed when I was pregnant with my Daughter that I am going to follow and see how that does for me. I lost 20 pounds while pregnant with her, so I like to joke that Pregnancy was one of the best diets that I've ever been on!

Shmoogrrl - The squat machine gets better! (It took several months before I could say that, but it does!) If you have a diet plan for diabetes, that should work really well! They tend to be lower carbs combined with lower calories and just plaine healthy living. Good luck on your journey!

Make sure you breath on that squat machine! I found that once I made sure I was breathing while squatting, it wasn't as difficult!

I joined Curves in March 04 and have lost 14.5 pounds, which puts me at my target, and around 20 inches! It took about 6 weeks for the weight to start coming off but then I started to lose a few pounds every month. I was kind of discouraged at first when it took so long to start losing, but the kind folks here on the WISH board were so supportive and encouraging! Didn't go on an official diet but just cut down on carbs and snacks like chips (my weakness!).

Just thought I'd share my story! Good luck to you!
