I work at a school so I'm off all summer. I have a job (with a special needs youth) that is very part time during the school year and full time during the summer. This is how I've always paid for my trips. This is also a job that I'm self employed with. Well I may not have this job this summer. If I don't we will cancel the trip (we never charge them). The bad part is I already have my airfare paid with insurance. I looked into it and it states I have to have proof of job loss. I'm self employed how would I do that?

Can u get a letter from the people who paid you. I would think that and maybe taxes showing past employment.

You are probably going to need to review the specific language in your policy. For example, in my policy issued by TravelGuard, I am covered if we cancel due to: "the Insured or Traveling Companion is involuntarily terminated or laid off through no fault of his or her own, provided that he or she has been an active employee for the same employer for at least one year. Termination must occur following the effective date of coverage. This provision is not applicable to temporary employment, independent contractors or self-employed persons;"

Best of luck -- Suzanne

So I figure I wasted the $$ because I dont have the right documents or employment. I guess I should have saved my money.

Check the terms of your insurance contract. Maybe can you show that you've been laid off from your school job for the summer? I know, you never expect to work at school in the summer, but maybe you can use this to your advantage somehow if your self-employed job won't get you the refund. Also, if the insurance won't repay your airfare, is there any chance you can talk to the airline, explain what happened, and see if they'll bank the money for you against a future trip? Probably won't happen, but it's something to try before resigning yourself to losing the money entirely.

if worst comes to worst I will see if I can just postpone. We are still planning on going as of right now.
