Just hung up w/ Disney Travel(AKL)

I'm staying at the AKL December 19th - 31st and the only way I'd move is if they upgraded me to a MK View at the Poly. Even then it isn't my decision as my DD7 specifically requested to stay at the AKL (it's her Christmas present).

No worries at the moment as we'll most likeley be at the parks while construction is going on. :thumbsup2

Question:

When they asked you, you could have said no correct? You could have stayed at AKL?

Congrats on your 1 bedroom villa!
yes, I could have refused. BUT, I am arriving on Julu 4, ALOT of property are sold out or preferred rooms, views are gone. I would be taking a chance on being walked somewhere else with no power of whee or how much refund-if any.I took SSR also because of almost a $1000 due back!! Thats alot of do, re, me.Also, the thought of a room to ourselves at night to relax w/ the kids in the next room makes me smile:cloud9: . Love the girls more than anyything, but after being in the parks with them 12-13 hours a days, I will savor the silence.

Congratulations on making a well thought out decision. All the reasons you chose to move are valid and I think you will enjoy SSR. That $$$ will go a long way towards another trip or spend part on some special event for this trip. Enjoy!!

I agree mariamard made a good decision for her personal situation. I think SSR is a very nice resort. I just know, for my situation, with two adults needing separate beds (this is a coworker of mine), neither of us would want to sleep on the sofa bed for 4 nights. That is the only reason I would turn down SSR. I'd take any other deluxe resort upgrade, or even OKW since it has 2 queen beds. But I have nothing against SSR except the sofa bed for my situation (and I'd feel the same about BWV/VWL or BCV). Even my kids (teens) don't particularily enjoy the sofa bed accomodations unles it's only for a night or two at most. I stayed in VWL recently, and my girls took turns sleeping with me in the queen bed and then in the sofa bed. They switched back and forth each night we were there. I think little kids would have no problem with the sofa beds though.

I think that is the key - that each person makes a decision based on what is going to work for them. My 20 yo granddaughter slept on the sofa bed during our 4 nights at SSR and found it quite comfortable- It is the new kind- It might not seem so to others. I personally found the bed to be uncomfortable but then I find any bed except my select comfort to be uncomfortable. Usually by the end of a WDW stay I am in serious trouble with aches and pains from the beds. I may try the sofa bed this time if it is one with the foam mattress and see how that works. For you and your co-worker two beds seems to be the best answer and I think that by December you will not have any worries about being moved. Hope you have a great trip.

Totally agree....different things work for different people. But we don't even prefer the new mattresses on the sofa beds as much as the regular beds----we had the new ones at OKW. But I have heard some people just love them.

I did get the construction warning when I made my reservations, but fingers crossed anyway for a quieter December....

Hi. My name is ###### and Im calling from the Disney Travel Co. in regards to your upcoming vacation at our evergrowing AKL. Unfortunately......."

For anyone that's received the call, what number is it? I call screen everything, and if i don't recognize the #, i don't pick it up.

Whatever, have a great vacation.

Thanks for the positive vibes:grouphug: , I have been agonizing for a few weeks over this knowing this possible all would come from Disney Travel. I even called a few weeks ago when the first post about switching came up. I called and asked about upgrading from pool view to concierge or savannah view and nothing was open(arr. on 4th of July). I had a little time to prepare and talk to the kids and do a little research on the positves and negatives of taking the "deal" and in my case, it worked out great!! We are going to do the land and sea DCL this winter, and we will have AKL savanah view for the 3 nights of that package.:)

We're arriving next Sunday (July 1-7) at AKL---been off the resort board for a bit---this makes me a little worried. I haven't gotten a call...yet.

I am going to the akl in september but I am worried about the work being done but I am going to wait until we get their to see how bad it is and if it is bad I will ask to be moved...only because we will be at the hotel all day instead of the parks...we are going just to relax and hang out so i dont want to hear a bunch of noise all day.

What type of room did you have?? Alot of people WILL be ok!!!Dont worry. Before I got the call, I tried to upgrade from my pool view to savanah and I couldnt because they were sold out. 2 of the trails will be uneffected.Wish it was me, but, we'll go to AKL when we do land and sea DCL. If you do get a call, it will all work out!!!

I called a bit ago and found out that they are not calling TA bookings, they will accomodate those bookings away from the construction. It sounds like there is construction that affects the pool in some way--even if it is listening to construction noises while sipping your favorite drink by the pool. Not my idea of relaxation. Now, I have to see what magic my TA can work for me. I would much prefer to handle it myself. I like working the reservations, etc. But, since we wanted a package at a AAA rate, I had to get the TA involved.

What are your dates, 40??? I would HATE not having control over this. Have you talked to your TA yet?? Any game plan? Ill tell you what-thank God for these boards and being prepared for "the call". Can you imagine the poor non-Dissers that have no clue and get hit with this???:scared1:
