Just how rude can WDW guests be?

Sure Jessmela, a WDW vacation is full of" tough" decisions just like you mentioned but your forgot an important one, the decision to choose to be a selfish, rude guest, I guess...right?

As to the logic, how do you feel about the lady saving the whole row at Fantasmic? Is this OK or do you live by arbitrary rules that make this one a nono? :confused3

Allison, you're welcome. :scratchin

I really never thought of "saving a table" as rude, and would not hesitate to share it with another family.

That being said, they lady saving a row of seats at Fantasmic may cross the line --- if her family is in the restroom, fine. If they're still having dinner, that's not right.

There's a fine line to cross. Everyone decides where they put the line.

A new group to look out for:
The EXTREMELY angry leaders of all that is moral and good, the "Tray Police!" Who knew? One more thing for someone, somewhere, to be offended by. Let's add it to the ever growing list and move on. :rotfl:

I don't think the 2 examples are directly comparable, but in both instances the general rule is first come, first serve. So just as you were shingle-out-of-luck at the restaurant, so would be Fantasmic lady's fate if another group decided to plunk themselves down in "her" row. But saving a table while food is being purchased, isn't the same as saving a whole row for friends/family who decided they couldn't be bothered with arriving early and reserving their own seats.

This thread reminded me of the main reason why I don't want to go back to Pizza Planet at MGM (although I know it wasn't completely the restaurant's fault). I was there with DD 8, DS 4, and my mother, who was in her late 60's at the time and recovering from heart and back surgery in a wheelchair. Because the kids were young and we had two trays of food, my mother stayed nearby with the kids while I stood in line. Once we had our food, we realized that there were no tables on the lower level, so we parked the wheelchair and headed up the stairs. Once up there we realized that although half the tables upstairs had appeared empty, they were in fact being saved. Mom did not feel up to going back down the stairs, so we walked back and forth up there for over ten minutes while people indeed avoided eye contact with us and even pulled chairs closer as if to block us from approaching. Everyone I asked could not spare us a corner of their table, even when I tried to explain my mother's health needs; finally a family handed over a chair that had been shoved back behind them in a corner and my mom sat in that one, while the rest of us set the tray right on the floor and began eating (yuck). I still can't believe we did that, but our food was cold and my mother needed to sit down. People sat there at their empty tables and watched us do this. I was so angry that it almost ruined my afternoon. Yes, Pizza Planet desperately needs more tables, but my faith in humanity took a blow that day.

I understand the idea of saving a table for your own family. I don't understand not helping people in evident need.

MickeyMonstersMom - just on FYI, there is an elevator at Toy Story Pizza Planet so you don't have to take the stairs.

I think Disney (and other fast food places) expects people sitting at tables while 1-2 people order. Otherwise you would have way too many people in line ordering and people coming in might get scared to get into a line that is really long (when really it's just a few parties).

We have people sit at the table (when with little kids or without) while someone else orders. Stare at me while you carry your tray around (doesn't bother me since I've been in places where I couldn't find a table too)- maybe you should have done the same or eat during off meal times. I guess I'm evil for saving a table, call in the table police. Is it also bad if we bring in icecream from outside and sit at the table.

I don't think it's rude to get a table while others in your party are in line to order food. I have a small child, and we always do that - especially if we eat somewhere with a play area, because we need a table where we can keep an eye on her.

What does bug me is people who hold tables for others who haven't even arrived yet - while others stand up and wait for a seat. If you want a table, atleast get yourself to the restaurant!

OK- I HAVE IT! THE ULTIMATE "WAITING FOR A TABLE PROBLEM SOLVER"

NOW-INTRODUCING ..ONLY AT DISNEY.......drum roll please....... :hyper:

:rockband:

FAST PASS FOR TABLES!! :lmao:

taaa daaaa!

i agree. who says you cant just do it yourself? i mean, trying to get the most out of disney sometimes means doing what youve gotta do! i mean, save a table, (you're on the ball) and eat fast get out! sometimes its necessary to do these things. agree or disagree? :scratchin

obviously you wouldnt go to an extreme to get the most out of your vacation. but honestly... saving a table is harmless!

Yes DH waits with the kids at the table. There is no way I am going to take my kids with me in line for food and risk hot food or drink getting knocked on the kids and scalding them.

What about me the single parent traveling with my children. I'm for sure not going to place them at a table by themselves while I stand in line for more than a couple of minutes so I have to take them with me in line. I'm risking spilling the hot food from our trays while we stand there forever waiting for someone leave a table.

I'm confused. If the queue is 20/30 minutes long, then people are eating and leaving at 20/30 minute intervals at the tables? If the queue is 10 minutes long, then people are eating faster and are leaving tables faster? How about 5 minutes? The statement makes no sense at all.

I was at AK on Sunday, a week ago, as well as the previous Thursday. Sunday was a zoo. They estimated that 25,000 people were in the park....35,000 is the most they usually have. Lines were everywhere. It wasn't pleasant especially comparing it to the previous Thursday.....which was still busy compared to times I usually go. Yeah, we saved a table at the burger joint in Dinoland. The place was mobbed. We didn't want to wander around looking for a table bumping into people with soda on our trays. We evacuated our table quickly, though, because the lady next to us began to change a baby's diaper as we finished eating. She was also finished eating....it must have been too difficult to head to the rest room. Maybe that's the key?

BTW, during the week we noticed a ton of non-English speaking guests at WDW. I don't know how that figures into this whole conversation but since someone else brought it up, I figured I'd mention it.

pirate: OK, so I finally am getting some logical people seeing my view. :cool1:

Tissa & MMMom, you are a perfect examples of what I'm talking about. Someone in your perdicament is SOL according to the 'table saving' is our right crowd. :smooth:

maddhatir, no FP won't work as we've already discussed some of those holding the FP will simply block the entrance until their number is called...But they're not being rude. ;)

justcruisin, you've just made up the line in the sand. The person holding a row of seats or place in line is ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENT than someone "saving" a table...Except by way of the me, me, me justification.

OMG!!! :headache:

its JUST a table! there is no science to it and there should'nt be........

sorry to all of you who dont THINK before they get their food to get a table beforehand!

there is no way i am going to stop saving my table for DH while he is getting food- and if someone needs a table and asks me if they can share mine- sure if there is enough room more power to ya--go for it!

sorry!

Maddhatir - LOVE it!!!

Peter Pirate - I am not sure if your OP was meant to express your frustration with standing there with a trayful of food and not being able to sit down, as you looked around and saw all tables occupied with diners or "savers" - OR - it was about the rudeness of saving at all....

I agree that Disney might help out by adding more seating during peak times or placing more CM's around just to manage timing. It seems the 20 minutes someone sits and saves while one member of the party is on line makes for unused table space for the 20 minutes it takes to get your food - that seems wasteful.

But, know what? I share your frustration. A single mom, it's only been more recently I send DS and DD to "save" while I buy. But then - I rarely get on a line that's going to take me 20 minutes. There is nothing more frustrating than emerging with your tray and having nowhere to sit, and seeing half the available tables with one or two guests, not eating, who are "saving" for others still on line.

But rude? Not sure about that. We have met some very nice people sharing a table and we've always found a place to sit anyway in a couple of minutes. Folks kinda see you standing there, looking around with a trayful of food and kids and decide to finish up.

OTOH - because of this practice, we tend to eat at off times and usually go off season. Rather pick up a Mickey bar or popcorn than tangle with lines and no tables. Just the way it is.

Stretchin' it a bit, PP! If while at Fantasmic, your kids get up to use the restroom, it's certainly appropriate to hold their seats for them. I can't imagine there is any debate on this point. They are on the premises and they arrived with the intention of using the seats. Same deal for the restaurant, they are present and intend to occupy the seats shortly. However, saving seats for people who aren't even there is a horse of a different color.

By the way PP, you're no stranger to the me, me, me justification. It's all we've heard from you on this thread. Me - inconvenienced by "rude" people. Me - unfairly put upon by "illogical" folks who disagree with the Pirate. Me - I didn't get what I want, so it's all "their" fault! So you see, it works in both directions. :)

As for the me, me, me thing, I am idealistic and I hate to see society barrelling down this road to ruin. Money, selfishness and materialistic things are nice and to be sure I have my share but I do not worship the material nor idolize or respect those who do. Me, me, me is for losers.
pirate:

Dude, you are way out of line. You call everyone who doesn't agree with you illogical. Who made you a Disney god? YOU need to get over yourself. As you can see, many people do not agree with you. It does not make them illogical or LOSERS. If you don't agree with something, no one is forcing you to. Likewise, you can't make us agree with you either. This has nothing to do with being selfish or ME,ME, ME. If you equate this to the decay of civilization, you must live in a bubble. You are really taking a leap calling people selfish and other names because they get a table at an eating establishment while a family member is in line. I could start calling you names (because more than a few are coming to mind right now) but I will not lower myself to your level. Two words for you Peter Pirate- GROW UP.

who'd of thought this would be this long a thread...

A)if it looks busy come back later, grab a snack you can walk with, sometime it's gotta clear out and have an empty table here and there...

B) i do think it's rude if a bunch of people are walking around with food trays and everyone in your party has finished eating and you spend an additional 10-20-60 mins looking at the map...that's what door ways and paths are for people, to block them by stopping in the middle and staring at a map( probably upside down and in a language you don't speak) for the rest of eternity . :rotfl2:

I'm not the Disney God??? Oh my, I was sure there'd been an election and I won...I guess I'm going to have to cancel my new stationery and vanity license plate!:hyper: But I'm so sorry to all who can't seem to have a little fun with stuff.

Melomouse, I appreciate your tone and you know what? Perhaps rude isn't the correct word because so many people do this (save tables) who have legitimate reasons and using a word like rude to describe only a portion does actually make the others think I'm calling them all rude. Thanks for the enlightenment. :)

jarestel, you may think it's a stretch but please explain how? Holding a seat waiting for food, holding a row waiting for folks going to the restroom? And who is to question if a particular "row holder" has 20 family members in the bathoom at the same time? Where's the difference?

Rescue Ranger, learn to comprehend what you read before you rant. Ignoring half of what I say in favor of ranting over a few adjectives I may use as hyperbole is just lazy and shows your intelligence level...And I have two words for you as well, would you like to guess them? :rotfl2:

lillygator, of course all that disagree with me are not illogical. Most, but not all. :lmao:

Isn't this fun?

The difference lies in the credibility of the situation. Unless the poor family is afflicted with dysentary, it's not likely that 20 of them would need to dash off to the bathroom at once. And if they are afflicted, you probably don't want their seats anyway!
