Trying to weigh the pro's and con's of getting the meal plan.

Just how much is an average meal per person?

Counter Meal - Total for a Hamburger, fries and a drink?

Table Meal - Total for an Appetizer, entree, dessert, non-alcoholic beverage and gratuity?

Snack - Popcorn or ice cream?

It all depends on which restaurant you choose....you'll need to get ballpark figures, or check out the menus at allears, they're really good with pricing that is current.... :flower:

I'm pretty new here but if you go to ALLEARS.net you can find all the menus plus prices for all the restaurants. I'd post a link but I don't know how to do that!!

I would definitely check out the menus.. but I think a round about price for a burger, fries and drink is probably about $8. I would guess that snacks are around $5, and a sit down meal totally depends on the restaurant... good luck and have a great trip:-)

Our Math -
ice cream mickey ears $2.50
water bottle when ours runs out $2.50

quick counter lunch - no matter where we eat $10 -$15 per person

dinner - sit down - $30 per adult, $20 per child

We do our own cereal, fruit, granola bars in the resort room for breakfast.
All deluxe and I think moderates sell milk in the gift shop.

We estimate for 2 adults and 2 children $150 per day.

Exception - we do not count the cost of the HDD in our food budget.

I just average the food. Some days we are less than $150, some days
more.

There are many sitdown restaurants in Epcot's World Showcase that are not in the meal plan. Also for the snack, you are limited to the ice cream bar, a box of popcorn, or a drink. We wouldn't eat those things everyday and when we do get a snack, we like to get something a little more unusual (Dole Whip, French pastry, etc). Kids are also limited to ordering only off the kids' menu.

Wow! I think you'd be lucky to get out of a WDW sitdown restaurant where you'd eat apps, main, dessert, NA drink, and tip for less than $50/adult. That's just my experience.

My estimate is about $50 for dinner -
appetizer $7- 10, main course $ 15 - 30, dessert $4 -6,
beverage about $2. That would total $40 or more, then tax and tip would take it to about $50.

I agree with the $9 - 15 for counter service meal with drink.

Also the $2.50 for snacks sounds correct.

We budget about $100-125 per day for 2 adults and one 11 y/o picky eater. We have one sit-down meal, usually dinner, every day. We find that the character meals tend to run us a little more. But I think that $30 is pretty close to what we spend for a sit-down meal per person (adult). We tend to eat at pretty middle of the road type places too...not Flying Fish or Calif. Grill or Narcoose's etc. I think when we ate at Artist Point and I did the wine flight to boot, it was about $100 for the two of us.

Counter meals tend to run about $10 per person.

I always figure $10.00 per person for counter service and $25.00 for table service. It seems to average out over an entire vacation.

Just remember if you get the meal option, you will have to pay rack rate for the room. You cannot apply discount codes. The only discount they will accept is AAA, which is only about 10 % off the room. The codes usually are a much higher discount. So, the meal option may not be such a great deal after all if you factor in the higher room rate. I found this out in the first thread up on top. Of course, if you want the convenience of having the meals paid for in advance, then you might not mind paying the higher room rate.

No codes available for the time we are going, plus we are getting the room/ticket package. Do you know if AAA is good with the room rate in the package? How would I get that as there was no option at the booking site?

I checked with my travel agent at AAA and we are going to WDW this Dec during value season and staying at AKL. We are saving $250 off the whole package. Which is just a percentage off the room rate. We have included the meal plan. :Pinkbounc

Just found a website that suggested that the food plan was not worth it.

Spring Break Couple, do you have the link to that website?
