OK. I just finished reading the Hurrican Jeanne thread and got to wondering. So I posted this poll to see what people have encountered out there on the ocean.

Hey Muushka, you might want to add a line to your post for "Don't have a clue (can't remember) but had fun anyway" or maybe "Don't remember any problems". I really don't remember any high seas on the 5/1/04 cruise.

I'm afraid that most of the replys would be that way! :p
I was really interested in the 'high sea' type, for some sick reason :earseek: .

I voted 10-15 hurricane season, however when we had the 14 ft swells, there was no hurricane. That was just the ocean we had to go through.
We have also sailed a couple times during hurricane season with 1-3 ft seas and barely knew we were on a boat.

I don't remember the height of the waves, but 1/2 of the people weren't coming to meals and stage shows were canceled on a RCCL cruise we were on! No hurricane.

Bobbi:boat:

Sept 17th they were 4-8 feet with Hurricane Jeanne still out there deciding what to do.

Our last night at sea was full of 14+ seas. The drawers were slamming in and out and we were tossing about! I've cruised alot and it was up there with some of the rougher waters!

If I am remembering correctly on the Sept. 19th wonder cruise the captin said that they would reach 10-15 ft. However as I sit here now I think they were stonger because I can still feel the rocking of the ship. But I hear that several members here have had this problem after the cruise.

We sailed on the Magic in April 2001. There were no hurricanes/tropical storms, but we had a couple days/nights of 20-24' seas. Pools were closed because the water was sloshing out of them. It was difficult to walk at times. The dining rooms were 1/2 empty.

It didn't make me sick, but DH got queasy when we were in the Walt Disney Theater and the curtains were swinging back & forth.

Still a great cruise...

Our Spring Break cruise this past March '04 was the worst sea conditions we ever experienced. We had gale force winds and 30' waves crashing into the Magic on Thursday night. We had to hang onto the sheets just to stay in bed. All of that and it wasn't even a hurricane! We have cruised three times in early August and had much calmer seas, in fact one of those cruises we had flat water, it was beautiful to look at. We knew it was not something the crew was use to seeing when you see the people in their white uniforms looking out the windows and telling us this never happens. In 15 total cruises we have seen it all from flat water to 30' waves breaking on the bow and going over the bow. We were just glad we were staying on deck 8 and were midship. We only had a little of the sea spray hit our verandah. Kathy

Last September, 2003, we followed Hurricane Isabel up the coast on our way back to port. Our itinerary was rearranged due to Isabel.
We had up to 20' waves, rocking, rolling, dipping, diving......drawers & closets opening and closing. We thought it was amazing! We loved watching the waves, and slept great!
We had to make a few changes, had DD's wedding a day early, but you'll hear no complaints from any of us!
DCL did a fantastic job!

I'm with tecdavidt. We were on that cruise, also. The funniest was watching the people literally crawling up the stairs in the WD Theater.

Like tecdavidt and others told us, give cruising another chance -- this was not what the seas are usually like in March.

Hopefully we will do just that in 2006!

We were on the Wonder then too...our seas the first night out were 15-18'...a great welcome to your first cruise! :-)

This HAD to be the March 20th cruise, right?? My sentiments exactly.

i couldnt vote on it because when i cruise, the seas are very calm...2-4ft...sometimes 0-2ft. ::yes::

Well, you need to email me with your cruising schedule!

By the way, are you on the 12/22/05 Wonder????;)

During my 9/19 Wonder cruise, I remembered I saw 8-13ft wave showed on TV weather channel. I could feel the ship rocked.

on the ship tv I have seen 4-8' seas are moderate, 8-12' are rough, 12-20 very rough, what is 20+

Yes indeed, it was the famous rough March 20th cruise. At least we have cruised enough to know that it isn't always that bad. Even our TA had rough waters over in the western side! The Atlantic, the Caribbean and the Gulf had angry waters for some reason this past March. I have to admit, we did go up on top to see the action--we are boaters so for some sick reason it was fun watching the waves hit the bow and splash all the way up to deck 10. Unbelievable but true. Ah the joys boating and cruising. Every cruise is different so go again if you had rough water. Kathy

To be honest, I was so afraid that one night when the seas were so rough, I could not imagine going outside to look! I just stayed awake all night watching the bridge report to see if the waves were going to get higher than the 20 to 30 foot than they already were!.

I wish we had known someone (like you!) who enjoyed that type of weather and I probably would have had an adventure instead of a nightmare! I don't know what I thought was going to happen, I was just sure something was going to happen!

Remember that Brazil had a 'hurricane' (which they do not get, neverming in March) around that time?
