Just how cheap are you?

I The thing that will hurt the most is that free in room delivery. DW and DS9 can just buy stuff and have it delivered. I may need an empty suitcase for the return trip with souveniers.[/QUOTE]

I just rolled up some cheap duffle bags and packed them in my luggage. Then, on the way back, these were carryons--full of souvenirs of course, LOL

We usually buy the milk from the All-star souvenir shop instead of the food court. alot cheaper than individual servings.

We also bring small boxes of cereal from home to have for breakfast and we share the milk...

That's about how cheap I get, I like to enjoy my vacation so I tend to indulge quite a bit.

Ohhh I also buy pins on e-bay so that the kids can trade when they go to WDW.

I am by NO means rich - but when I go on vacation, I'm on vacation. I don't spend like there's no tomorrow, but I also don't go frugal. I plan how I'm going to spend and save for it.

My tune may change now that we're having a baby, but that way has always worked for me. :)

We bring breakfast food for the room such as cereal bars, cereal that the kids will eat dry and fruit. We also bring water bottles and snacks for the park so that we do not have to buy anything there. All shirts and PJ's were bought before we got there. I bought them on sale somewhere. they were excited to have disney stuff, they did not care where it came from. Also I have the disney visa card so I use my points on the extras. Last trip we had the free dining so we only spent about $100 out of pocket the whole trip and that was for some gifts for the kids and for people watching our dog.

...bring your own detergent for the laundry from home. I pour mine in an empty 20 oz. Coke bottle and bring it with me.

What a good idea! I have been looking for travel size at a good price forever, but when I have found travel size, just couldn't bring myself to pay the price. I had read that people pack laundry detergent in zip loc bags, but I could just see opening the case to white powder everywhere. Problem solved! :thumbsup2

all makes a "small and mighty" size too that probably isn't much bigger than the soda bottle. i use it all the time since i have a hard time lifting those gigantic 500 oz things :sunny:

I am such a brand addict though, Tide is what I always use. Does All work well?

I'm a Cheer Girl myself, but I bought the concentrated All in the small bottle for our last WDW trip and it worked very well! It got our stinky, dirty, Kali wet, laundry nice and clean. Just bought another bottle for our upcoming trip. I still use Cheer at home though!

We always take a cooler for drinks, breakfast items, and lunch items. We don't eat every lunch or every breakfast in our room. There are times when this is more convenient than dealing with meal decisions, wait times finding a comfortable place to sit, etc....and it saves money as well.

Folks can use the restroom facilities while others are eating breakfast and it makes our mornings less rushed.

The whole family can drink for a week on the price of just one refillable resort mug.

I prefer the term frugal. We usually eat breakfast in the room, eat counter service in the parks, stay in a moderate resort.
We enjoy eating at Cosmic Rays, for example, and spending our money on souvineers to take home.

We are frugal in some area's and not in others.

We like to go to WDW for approx 2 weeks per trip. In order to be able to afford this we do certain things to minimize costs. There are some area's we choose not to be frugal.

In order to save money we drive down, stay at a value resort and try to get a overflow rate from Shades of Green, we buy our tickets at Shades of green so we get the military discount, we buy a Disney Dining Experience card (timing it so we get 2 years worth out of it) to save 20 % on meals, and buy a regular Annual pass since (timing it so we get 2 years worth out of it) since we go for 2 weeks at a time.

For meals, saving the 20% (DDE card) or 10% (Annual Pass) is a real savings. We bring water, soda, snacks and breakfast items for use in the room. For us, its so easy to eat breakfast in the room as we get ready in the morning. What we won't compromise is our lunch and dinners. We mostly do 2 sit down (lunch & Dinner's) a day. Most morning in the parks we get smoothies.

The kids each get one large item that we buy. We buy a pen & autograph book for each of them. We usually will buy a t-shirt or sweatshirt for them as well. They must save and bring the rest of their own spending money. We usually buy one Snow Globe and we have over the years bought a few pictures in AK (along with a few other AK items) that have become the focus of decorating our family room & Kitchen.

We save money all year long in the form of change & an envelope that we use for spending money when we are down in Disney. There is always 300-500 dollars in it by the time we go. This is enough for our fun discretionary money in Disney. We use this for snacks, souvenirs, etc.

So for us, we don't scimp on food (except we save on breakfast and in-room snacks). We save on our hotel, because for us the value's offer such a great deal because of the theming and price. We use annual passes and the DDE to save so we can afford to go each year and stay for 2 weeks each time. I think everyone has different things they sacrafice in order to enjoy their vacation. For some the hotel is something they won't sacrafice, but they might decide a week is enough. For others they eat very inexpensively in the parks or stay offsite. That's what makes WDW so wonderful. There are so many options and way's to vacation that almost every budget can find something.

We save the light up toys from previous years. We now have quite a collection of light up necklaces, hand held light up toys, etc. etc. In addition we did the walmart special for the spray fans, when 10 year old wanted the disney one we did buy it for her, it is in the closet with the light up toys. We also save our ponchos!! We keep them stored in our luggage when we put it away, that way we never leave them behind when we're planning our disney trip. And no, we don't go anywhere else. LOL

In their travel sized section of beauty products, Target sells a small travel size bottle of Tide. I think it runs like $1-$1.99. I am very allergic to Tide or I would be lots of them to stock up for the 2 trips a year!!

I'm so cheap, I drink the water fountain water :lmao:

$2 a bottle of water? Yeah, ok, ONCE. On the first day. And then I'll refill it from the water fountains every day for the rest of the week. I'm damned if I'm paying Zephyr Hills for something which I can get for free from a water fountain!

I try to be frugal, but when it comes to WDW it's tough! But one thing I always do is get some light up toys for my DS's to use after dark! I've gotten necklaces, whistles, bracelets, halloween glow-in-the-dark toys & other stuff like that. I just don't let them know until I pull them out of the backpack. Surprise! And they're just as excited as if I bought them there. :thumbsup2

Excellent idea! I'm putting some o' them on my shopping list.

frugal and I really don't like each other....

I do however bring some snacks and drinks for the room, but that's about it.

I'm frugal, but I'm not cheap. We go on vacation to enjoy ourselves, not to squeeze more out of what is offered than was ever intended. :sad2: We splurge a bit during our trips - that's what vacations are for!

I usually buy liquid, but for traveling I buy a small powder box of tide and measure it out in individual sandwich size ziplocks.. Then, I put the sandwich size ziplocks in a gallon size with a few dryer sheets. When I do the laundry I just empty the whole baggie of detergent in the washer...

This is my first trip to DW and I've got it all figured out. Since I dont have alot of extra moolah I've come up with this;
I bought a bottle for fountain water at Target. It was 3.50 and is the kind that hikers use nice and sturdy. I packed a gallon ziplock bag full of poptarts and cereal bars. I've also got some snacks in zip lock bags. We're eating at four sit down restaurants and the other three days counter service. In preparation for that I bought pepto bismol tablets at my local Big Lots! I have a little tide container I'm bringing just in case. At the dollar store I got ponchos 2 for a buck! What luck! And everything is in a ziploc bag for when I come back all my soiled garments can fit right back in them!
I have to say most of these ideas I got off the boards here. Thank goodness they have been a life saver! Or at least I hope they will!
Eight more dayS!

I did an ebay search for Disney light up toys and bought a box of 5 of them. The seller had them from their previous trips to the parks and were getting rid of them. They all work and I paid $5 + shipping. I will pop in some new batteries, pack them and pull them out at the parades for my kiddos. I just can't stomach paying $15 or so a piece for these plastic things x 3 kids, no thanks. These will be perfect and they are real Disney ones to boot!
