Just how busy is MVMCP?

I'll preface this by saying that I've only been to WDW during the wild months of summer, and we finally have a November trip planned. I'm looking at November 10th for Mickey's Christmas party. Considering the amount of money that the tickets cost(!) for a family of five, I'm hoping that there won't be so many people at MK that I'll want to wish I'd never purchased tickets.:stitch:

With that being said, is there anything more magical than MK all decked out for Christmas??:santa:

Any thoughts? Thanks for sharing your opinions.

I have been to 4 MVMCPs since 2004. One was PACKED (early December) and miserably crowded. One had almost no crowds and the other two were so-so.

You CANNOT go there expecting low crowds and no lines. The time I went that was so horrible I waited 45 min in Tomorrowland just for a beverage. Main Street was all but impassable it was so crowded.

In 2010 Cosmic Rays was so crowded there was NO seating to be had. Main Street was again packed, but ride waits were 20-30 min.

For the price tag _I_ feel the event is too oversold...

I agree with the above poster; however, since you have never gone over the holidays, you will be able to see holiday wishes and the Christmas Day parade, which don't start until after the end of the party. So from that aspect, it might be worth it to you. I've only ever been to the party around thanksgiving and just before Christmas and it is very crowded. I do feel going early in November and during the week shouldn't be too bad, but it is definitely more crowded than I remember 10-15 years ago. Also, some of things you got have been taken away. I would look at is as way to see something that you would have to go over Christmas to truly be able to see. That's my opinion.

Previous posters are both right , it can be packed to moderate crowds. So I advise you if your main reason to go to party is for quick access to attractions. I don't think you will be happy, if you are going for Parade, live shows and spectacular fire works you will be a happy. My wife and I many years would go to two parties, some for attractions the other no attractions just live shows , etcetera. The cost for us just two wasn't that bad.Your cost for party is a chunk of dollars. It is a great time with all the decorations and characters decked out in holiday best.It will be dark before party starts so you can see without going to party. It's a tough decision and I hope I have not confused you or made it harder for you decide. No one is going to chase you out of park at 7:00 but without party on your magic band or wristband you won'i be allowed on any attractions. Have a wonderful time on your vacation , it's a special time to visit WDW.

MVMCP value is such a difficult thing to assess. What makes it worth it for one person seems like a total waste to another. However, I personally think it's worth every penny. First, you can book Fastpasses with your party ticket from 4-7. Between those and the other attractions we fit in, we managed 5 or 6 attractions during that time, plus we ate. So that's a bonus. Second, you get to see a parade and fireworks show that you can't see any other time without dealing with insane crowds, and meet characters that you can't see any other time, period. Watching my husband meet Scrooge McDuck seriously made the whole trip worth it (or would have if I hadn't already been enjoying myself immensely). Third, as you said, seeing MK decked out for Christmas, with holiday music playing and snow falling on Main Street while you sip on hot cocoa, is just an experience unlike any other.

I hear lots of people say "it's too crowded". I really can't say we had any issues with crowds, at all. We attended the Nov 7th party last year, which sold out. I followed advice about staying off Main Street until late, and didn't encounter any traffic jams (it was crowded leaving as we left right after the second parade, but that was the only time we ran into any serious crowds). We watched Holiday Wishes and the Christmas parade in the Hub, and although there were plenty of people, we encountered none of the rude, pushing, massive crowds I kept hearing about at parties. The popular attractions (7DMT, Peter Pan, Anna & Elsa, probably one or two more) still had long lines. Every thing else--everything--was 20 minutes or less. The ones we rode, we walked right on. Fantasyland was a ghost town most of the night, except near where characters were meeting. The meet & greets can suck up time, but if you get in line before the party starts (between 6 and 6:30) for one you really want to meet, you can cut down on that.

All in all, I think it's definitely worth doing. We'll be attending again this year and are excited for it!

A sold out MVMCP - approximately 30,000 guests - does seem crowded in some areas. Main Street and the Hub will be crowded especially for the first parade.

Last year, the Castle lighting show was held twice on nights where a MVMCP was scheduled. The first show was for all guests before the Party began. The second show was for Party guests only. It was reported to be very hectic at times for guests waiting for the first show.

Also remember Veterans' Day is November 11th so the 10th may very well be a sold out party.

How much are the tickets? I'm just curious because we will never have the opportunity to go at that time of year, nor the MNSSHP for that matter, so I've never looked into it. I'm not trying to be a pain, I am just wondering what you ate paying for? Do you receive something special, or are you only able to see Wishes and the nighttime parade that time of year if you pay extra?

Tickets are around $70 per person, I believe. The party runs from 7-12, but you can get in at 4, so you could potentially have 8 hours of park time. Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade and Holiday Wishes are shown at the parties, and cannot be viewed outside of the party other than the week of Christmas. There are special meet & greets (7 Dwarfs, Princess meet with Princesses, Jack Skellington as "Sandy Claws", Scrooge McDuck) that are only held at the parties. There's a special stage show at the Castle, in Tomorrowland, and in Frontierland (I think), as well as a dance party at Cosmic Ray's at one (I believe) in Diamond Horseshoe in Frontierland. Wishes and MSEP are shown on nights that don't have parties scheduled, so there are still opportunities to see them.

We went that same time last year and it was crowded but not near as bad as in the summer. The party thins way down after 10 PM and that's when you can walk on almost any ride. We always that the day off and just go to this event they let you start to arrive after 4 pm so it is still a full day for your money. I only like to go to MK in November or 1st week of December, unfortunately the secret is out that it is the best time to vacation, still better than summer.

It can be packed, but depending on where you go and what you want to do, it can be amazing (especially if you rest up in the afternoon). We're going to as many as we can during our return trip in November. We love them. We can walk on to most rides even on busy nights if we ignore the fireworks and go play. First night we do the dessert party, and the other party nights we do things. Main Street and the castle are packed, but keep going even on busy nights and many things are wide open.

My kiddo forgot to tell "mermaid Ariel" something at around 9 pm. Normally I'd be saying to a sobbing kid, well, we'll have to try to see her another day, instead we literally walked from the exit to the entrance and saw her again -- then went on the Ariel ride a second time. It was so perfect! There are a few rides that have longer times of course, but most are very short waits. We make sure to fill our 4-7 pm fastpasses with things like 7DMT and A&E and then we just have fun. There's also the characters who you never see, the snow, and just so much fun.

And walking on and riding Dumbo during the fireworks finale is our new must-do. They even extended our ride for the whole finale. It was breathtaking!

I'm trying to decide if we should do a 2nd.
We are doing MHO at DLR then flying to Orlando for MNSSHP on the 1st, we have tickets to MVMCP on the 10th and our last Disney day is the 13th. We have 10 day park tickets.
I am considering buying tickets for this also, do you think it would be worth it?

It felt similar to a crowd level eight day to me and was more crowded than I expected. We wanted to do the MK on our last trip, weren't doing any other Disney park, and had a relatively small number of attractions we wanted to hit. Also, we wanted to see a parade and fireworks. We ended up doing the party as it was $70 pp instead of a regular day because that was $100 pp. In addition, with all the ticketed events and early closure for regular guests, crowd predictions were pretty high on the days there were not parties for us, due to so many guests picking the day the parks were open later for non party ticket guests. // The party seem to have the most appeal for people who really like the characters, as they have lots of special ones there. We're not into that, though. I think if you are into the characters it might be worth it -- get a picture with Tinkerbell -- all seven of the dwarfs are there, and on and on.

Popular attractions like the new seven dwarfs mine train had an hour long wait for most of the evening. We waited until after the second parade and that cut our wait down to about 40 minutes. We hit Space Mountain after that and were able to ride twice -- walk on just before closure at midnight. It was the last thing on our list, and we did fit everything in, but barely due to heavy crowds. Rope drop on a regular day I think works better if you are just looking to do attractions with lower crowds. // We were there till 2 a.m., hitting mainstreet gift shops after attractions closed. To get everything we wanted to do in we didn't have time for that till then.

We got there at 4 and left at 2 and this is all we hit (Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Anna and Elsa -- super crowded, Counter Service dinner at that mainstreet hot dog place -- huge lines, pirates, peter pan, philharmagic, voyage of the little mermaid, and it's a small world, second parade and fireworks, seven dwarfs mine train (we actually wasted time and went over here both before Anna and Elsa -- thought we would miss Anna and Elsa with an attempt, so skipped, during first parade -- heard lines are short then, but were concerned we'd miss fireworks and second parade // that was the inefficiency of our night), two rides on space mountain were our last attractions, and then we did main street USA shopping (kind of fun -- lots of people there doing this at midnight).

I mean we had a pretty good time. But not sure if it was the party, my age with crowds appealing to me less and less, where I am in my life, the age of my son (19 and in college) or the fact that I've just gone a lot (38 trips to Orlando since 1970), but ever since the party for the first time in a long time, I have no interest in coming back to Orlando, and for example this year went to New York City, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and will be going to Rocky Mountain National park. Usually an Orlando mini trip makes it into my budget, but it didn't make the cut for 2015 even though it made it all of the past seven years. And Orlando is not making the cut for 2016. It's getting bumped by New York City instead again (doing another mini trip there with monies I'd typically use for Orlando) and our bigger vacation is going to we out west (South Dakota this time).

We went to MVMCP last year during the 3rd week of November, and it was a lot busier than we wanted. We're headed back to Disney this November, and I don't think we're doing the party this year. It was nice to see once, but I really didn't enjoy the fact that it was so crowded.

We went to the first Thursday party two years ago and other than the fireworks and Peter Pan's Flight (the first day it had reopened from a small refurb), it was dead. We waited for Philharmagic completely by ourselves.

We're going to same day thus year (third party of the year) so well see what conditions are this time.

I think the parities (MVMCP & MNSSHP) are a crap shoot in terms of crowds. We did the MNSSHP last year and the crowds were acceptable. The thing to keep in mind is WDW crowds are growing each year............slow times are disappearing. The same will be true for the parties. We're doing the December 6th MVMCP, its a Sunday. Yeah we're hoping it isn't crowded but we'll deal what ever is thrown at us. The Christmas parade and fireworks show are more than worth it in our minds, since I've never done Christmas at Disney before. And..................we're making our Christmas card with "Santa Goofy" too!!!!!!!!!!! pixiedust:

Holiday Wishes is only once per night on a Party night. I believe it's at 9:30p immediately following the Castle projection show.

The Castle lighting show was twice per evening on Party nights. Elsa and the Frozen cast encased Cinderella Castle in lights!

We did the Halloeen party last year and walked on to almost all rides. HOWEVER, there was a MAJOR rainstorm that ended around 6:30-7...which likely deterred ALOT of people. We got seats on the curb on main street no problem for the second parade, we saw wishes and rode almost everything. Splash 6 times in row, no one in line, never getting off, I had the song in my head for days. Thank you 5 year old daughter.

We are doing the MVMCP this Nov 13...and it's a Friday...and I'm totally worried about crowds, but we are going expecting nothing and a good attitude :) We are doing it for the parade, fireworks, a couple of rides and the dwarves. Maybe princes if they are around! I think it's attainable. Anything extra will just be a bonus.

We went to the first MVMCP last year and it was crowded (I think possibly even sold out), but it wasn't overwhelming. We waited 45 minutes for Scrooge McDuck and 45 minutes for the Dwarves, but rides and other Meet and Greets weren't as long. We didn't stake out a prime Wishes spot, as we ended up watching from the Dwarves line. We did though, find a decent spot right up by the train station for the 2nd parade right at starting time. It was a lot of fun. We are going to be there the same week this year, but the party isn't starting on Friday (it's starting Sunday this year), so we will already be headed home for the first one.
