Yes it is pretty crazy. We drove in NYE of last year. When we got to the Ocala welcome center at @9:30am they told us MK had reached capacity. We decided to go to EPCOT since it is the largest park. There were 68,000 other people in EPCOT for NYE with us. A record attendance.
The Bad:
There was a 3 hour wait for Mission Space. Test track was a mob. We saw Universe of energy and then decided we would just head to WS because you could barely walk in FW. I have never seen so many people in my life. It is a good thing my crew is not claustrophobic. WS was a little better but not much.
GOT MILK?? We had a minor calamity when I went to the baby station to get milk and they don't sell whole milk-just formula. So I went to the McDonald's cart and by this time DD was screaming. The line was 30 people long. I managed to beg someone up close to buy a carton of milk for me.
Bathroom lines-- lets just say if you don't have a strong bladder make some arrangements.
DH waited an hour to get a beer in UK. Forget the baby's milk you've never seen a tantrum like DH's.
THE GOOD:
We had an absolute blast! There was live entertainment with great music.
All of the countries celebrated during the day as their home countries clocks struck 12.
They gave out cool top hats and honkers.
We managed to luck up on an awesome fireworks spot and after Illuminations they did a fireworks show the likes of which I don't think I'll ever see again. My family was spellbound. DH and I looked at each other at one point and we had tears in our eyes. (shhh don't tell him I told you!)
It was the most memorable NYE we have ever had and we wouldn't trade it for anything.
Now I knew (courtesy of my good friends at DIS) that NYE would be crazy so I was prepared for the crowds and for not being able to do many attractions. I wanted to experience it at least once. Just as long as you are prepared you should have a great time.
I would do it again. But not every year
