I returned home from BWV late on 8/20 (spent the first 3 nights across the lobby at BWI), and must say, I had as great a time as always. I love the BWV for both the location and service, and I wasn't disappointed in either department this trip.

I checked out of BWI and in to BWV a little after 7:30AM on 8/15, and I was told my room was ready. This is one of the things I love about BWV; my room has always been ready upon arrival. There was only once where I had to wait for my room, and that was when I was staying on the Inn side. I had a 1BR BWV room booked, and the front desk Cast Member (for the life of me, I can't remember his name) directed me to a room on the second floor (either 2049 or 2043). A little bummed, as I'm not a fan of the rooms with the solid half-wall balconies, but not the end of the world. I get to the room, bellman just behind me, and upon entering the room, the first thing I say is "this kitchen looks different." The bellman says "no, ma'am, just your standard 1BR kitchen." Didn't think too much of it, and after the bellman left, I started to unpack. As I walked in to the master bedroom, the bathroom caught my eye. Immediately I saw the roll-in shower and grab rails around the toilet. That's when it hit me that the kitchen looked different because it was a HA unit. This wasn't going to work for me for two reasons: 1) I feel like I'm taking a HA unit away from someone who might actually need it (even though I know they wouldn't have assigned me the unit if it were blocked off for someone in need, I still felt guilty about it); 2) As an able-bodied person, the HA accomodations would have been hard for me to adjust to. So, I called the front desk, and asked about a room change. At first, I was met with 'there's nothing else available.' I asked if anything else would open up later in the day, and thank goodness there would be. I had to vacate that room immediately and leave my bags with bell services. No problem!

Around 2PM, I got a voice mail that my new room was ready. I was assigned room 4009. Aside from a small pen mark on the 'kitchen' table, the room was in perfect condition. Loved the room, and was so glad BWV was able to accomodate the room change.

Everyone at BWV was polite, and always said 'hi,' 'welcome home,' etc. My only complaint was the parking situation, which as any BWV owner knows, this is nothing new. BWV had 4 metal poles up at the main entrance to the self-park lot, so you had to drive around to the entrance across from the convention center. This didn't do much good, as parking was still an issue at night. Not as bad as it once was, but still difficult (had to park in the far corner of the lot). Does anyone know the reasoning for those metal poles at the main entrance to the parking lot?

Aside from the parking situation, everything else went perfectly. Looking forward to my next trip home!

Thanks for telling us about your stay. :thumbsup2

We are new members at BWV and have never even seen it other than some U-Tube links. And we are looking forward to staying there in the near future.

Thanks for the trip report! We stay at BWV every other year and we'l really enjoyed our stays there too!

That room was probably empty the night before, which is why you were able to get in it at 7:30am. I've never had luck that early at BWV, usually the room is not ready until between 2:00 and 4:00.

2049 is "our" room. I think it may be the only HA BW view 1 bedroom, so DH and I always get that room. I am not a fan of the half wall balcony but you must admit that the balcony in that room is HUGE! And you can go out in pajamas and not worry about anyone being offended! :lmao: And it's close to the elevator!
Glad you got a room you liked better.

Too funny about 2049 being 'your' room! It was in a convenient location, no doubt. I've been in other rooms with the half-wall balcony, and you're right, that balcony is huge! The only problem is that the view is blocked when you sit down. I like to eat breakfast, snacks, etc. on the balcony, and it's no fun when your view is obstructed by that balcony. There are definitely worse things, though!

One other important advantage of 2049: Nazareen is the mousekeeper. She is the BEST!

Oh then you'd better be ready to be hooked! We too have never had to wait for a room to be ready at BWV, and have always had rooms in great shape.

Debi - I share you positive outlook on life. My whole crew (22 of us in 3 2-bedroom villas at BWV) were down in early July and had a great vacation. Were there a few minor glitches? Of course - how could there not be a few scratches on the furniture will a room that's occupied every night. That business with the parking lot being only assessible from the convention center side was like that in January when we were down there. I had the same thought as you - namely, what is that all about. I couldn't figure it out.

That's funny . . . we stayed in that same room too and Nazareen was our mousekeeper . . . very good!!! I did not like the solid wall either as you had to stand to view the boardwalk, but it was a wonderful play area for our 2 year old grandson:dance3:

Welcome back! We enjoyed our stay in 4009 a couple years ago - we've actually spent a few stays in the '09' stack, love the view! I recently got back from my first SV stay, will have to go back to the BW view next time!

California Dreamin, I loved 4009! Nice location, great view. Like oyu, after being in a BW view room, it's hard to go to SV. I did SV once, and never again - I'm a view kinda girl. :)

They have a good portion of the parking lot blocked off with the metal poles for valet only. Parking was a pain for us in July.

TangaroaTiki, I'm talking about the self parking lot. After you go through the guard shack at BWV, the valet lot is to the left and self parking is to the right. The self park lot had metal poles blocking the first entrance, so you had to circle around past the bus stop, and go in by the convention center. Does anyone have a definite answer about why those poles are up?

Debi - do you have any pictures of the room. We just returned from a split stay at AKL-Kidani, BWV, and BLT and loved BWV the best. We would love to stay in a 1BR next time we go but I can't seem to find any good pics of the rooms.

Like you I wonder why they are there too. They went in right about the time they stopped free valet parking but don't know if there is a relationship, e.g., are they there to encourage valet parking?

drusba, that is a possibility. I still have 'write letter to DVC' on my to-do list. Overall, I had a great vacation, but the poles seemed to have not solved any parking problems.

i don't have a definative answer, but have seen them used for a few years during busy times. only recently, it appears they keep them up most of the time.
the poles do keep out many of the cars who used to just slip into the resort guest lot after passing the guard, to keep going onto the main circle and valet park. of course, some people realized that the other entrance was still open (another guard is posted there during the F&WF), and sneak in that way.
btw, we have always been able to find a spot in that lot, and we've been staying at the BWVs multiple times every year, since they opened
