I returned home from BWV late on 8/20 (spent the first 3 nights across the lobby at BWI), and must say, I had as great a time as always. I love the BWV for both the location and service, and I wasn't disappointed in either department this trip.
I checked out of BWI and in to BWV a little after 7:30AM on 8/15, and I was told my room was ready. This is one of the things I love about BWV; my room has always been ready upon arrival. There was only once where I had to wait for my room, and that was when I was staying on the Inn side. I had a 1BR BWV room booked, and the front desk Cast Member (for the life of me, I can't remember his name) directed me to a room on the second floor (either 2049 or 2043). A little bummed, as I'm not a fan of the rooms with the solid half-wall balconies, but not the end of the world. I get to the room, bellman just behind me, and upon entering the room, the first thing I say is "this kitchen looks different." The bellman says "no, ma'am, just your standard 1BR kitchen." Didn't think too much of it, and after the bellman left, I started to unpack. As I walked in to the master bedroom, the bathroom caught my eye. Immediately I saw the roll-in shower and grab rails around the toilet. That's when it hit me that the kitchen looked different because it was a HA unit. This wasn't going to work for me for two reasons: 1) I feel like I'm taking a HA unit away from someone who might actually need it (even though I know they wouldn't have assigned me the unit if it were blocked off for someone in need, I still felt guilty about it); 2) As an able-bodied person, the HA accomodations would have been hard for me to adjust to. So, I called the front desk, and asked about a room change. At first, I was met with 'there's nothing else available.' I asked if anything else would open up later in the day, and thank goodness there would be. I had to vacate that room immediately and leave my bags with bell services. No problem!
Around 2PM, I got a voice mail that my new room was ready. I was assigned room 4009. Aside from a small pen mark on the 'kitchen' table, the room was in perfect condition. Loved the room, and was so glad BWV was able to accomodate the room change.
Everyone at BWV was polite, and always said 'hi,' 'welcome home,' etc. My only complaint was the parking situation, which as any BWV owner knows, this is nothing new. BWV had 4 metal poles up at the main entrance to the self-park lot, so you had to drive around to the entrance across from the convention center. This didn't do much good, as parking was still an issue at night. Not as bad as it once was, but still difficult (had to park in the far corner of the lot). Does anyone know the reasoning for those metal poles at the main entrance to the parking lot?
Aside from the parking situation, everything else went perfectly. Looking forward to my next trip home!
