Hi everybody, Jeff here!

Loved Wayne’s Explorer Canoe segment!

My first time ever on them was my first trip out in '85 for the 30th Anniversary. I sat in the last seat, just ahead of the aft cast member. After the instructions, we dipped our paddles in for our first stroke, and we took off like a speedboat. In disbelief, I turned around and asked the CM, "Are we doin' this?" He replied, "You're doin' it!" A favorite ever since, and that's not to mention the Keel Boats.

What a disappointment when they disappeared from WDW. (Although the keen-eyed visitor can still spot them in various locations around the Resort. Can you find all 4?)

Can't wait to see you in the parks!

A few months ago, I went to DL with a group of 20 year olds, and we went on the canoes. We had so much fun that that easily was my favorite thing we did all day. It really does make a difference when you go with a fun attitude, plus you get a different perspective of the river and Frontierland when you're paddling the canoe.

I learned a lot in that segment. :goodvibes

I'll have to look for them next time I am in WDW. :)

Thanks Mary Jo!

I completly agree. Maybe we need a DIS Canoe Meet!

I just listened to it this morning, too. We were in DL at the end of June and tried several times to ride (paddle) the canoes and there were closed. Boo hoo! I guess that is another reason to go back.

I remember paddling canoes somewhere when I was a kid, but having never been to DL and knowing that they don't have them at WDW, I was very confused. Now I know that memory is from my first trip to Disney World in 1974. Good times, even with a broken arm.

What a great segment! It really makes me want to give the canoes another chance.

My 15 year old daughter and I did the canoes on our last trip at the beginning of the month. We were really looking forward to it, but ended up not enjoying the ride at all, not because it's not neat, but because of other guests. We were seated behind a family of 4 who were not "paddle aware" and kept smacking us with their paddles, or splashing unnecessarily, or just being all around rude to those around them. I still don't know how the mom was able to hit my paddle with hers and nearly knock it out of my hand (repeatedly) when she was two seats in front of me. I'd like to do it again with a larger group so we could fill the canoe, we might enjoy it more. It seemed a lovely ride and the perspective from so close to the water is very different from the big boats, but we were both too preoccupied with not dropping paddles into the water or having our fingers smashed to enjoy it.

You got it! When are you coming down, again? :hippie:

I hope the next time you go on it you can ride with a fun group. It really does make a difference.

I would love a DIS Canoe Meet. :yay:

Wonderful segment! I was driving in my car listening to the segment and just about clapped at the end of it. I so enjoy your storytelling skills, Wayne! :cutie: Delightful!

I told my daughter to add the canoes to our 'must do' list for a special trip next summer. :thumbsup2

I highly recommend the book "In The Shadow of the Matterhorn" by David Smith. David grew up by Disneyland and worked as a CM on the canoes. It is available as an ebook for the kindle on Amazon. I don't personally know David, but heard him on another Disney podcast (The Sweep Spot) and bought the book. He tells about the canoe races CM used to have. Very Entertaining Read.:)

Thank you very much for the nice words! :o

I loved it, too. I want to play some of these for my family on our road trip to DL next week.
