Just had an earthquake here in South Jersey

I felt it near Philadelphia, and Facebook lit up with all my friends from VA through NY feeling it. Our building rattled, badly, for about a minute. At first we thought it was some carts rolling down the hallway (our building is part offices, part warehouse), but then everyone started saying EARTHQUAKE!

I haven't gotten a hold of my parents on the Chesapeake bay yet. :(

My brother is stationed in Chesapeake (USCG). He said he is ok, and no major damage being reported.

We felt it here in NC too...and for all those who may not be able to get in touch with someone in the SE VA area, verizon is reporting outages

Just a taste of what you might experience if you visit Disneyland! I'm a So. Cal. native and have lived through thousands of earthquakes. Whenever there was a biggish one it would send a lot of the transplants packing to get back to wherever they came from. Hope it stops shaking there!

Felt it in Michigan. Not nearly as much as my friend in PA though, but I noticed it. Our whole building did

Felt it in Reading, PA! Crazy experience. But good learning opportunity, I reacted by standing up and looking at my coworkers. Really I should know what to do in this situation aka under something for protection. I have learned my lesson.

I felt it in Pittburgh, Pa. It was just
a little but my light fixture kept
swinging and I knew something had
to be up:confused3

I'm just above you in Butler and didn't feel a thing. I could understand that had I been up in our control room because they tied the room to the platform with the equipment and it is constantly shaking and swaying. I was down on the main plant floor as we were just waiting to go to a meeting. None of us felt it (I assume since no one said anything.)

I live 30 miles from the center and it definately had me rattled, my 15 month old DD slept throught it! We just had a 4.2 aftershock at about 8:04 and it rattled me again and didnt affect her at all.

So far just damage reported in the louisa/mineral area, thankfully!

I was downstairs and the whole basement/ceiling was shaking. I came upstairs to find out what the heck was going on and my kids were scared to death asking what just happened.
I told them it was the house shifting and nothing to be afraid of but it was definitely an earthquake.

anyone else experience this or know where to find out if we should be worried? We are in Gloucester County NJ.

I too am from Gloucester County. Totally freaky and totally cool at the same time!!

Was with friends at Dorney Park in Allentown PA we were on a water ride and didnt feel anything LOL .... DD was home and said the house shook and that a small picture fram on her dresser fell over nothing big ... hope everyone is good that was closer to Richmond !!

Just outside of Philly hear and I thought it was going to take out a window or 2 in the house. Def. different I'd say.

Now are you ready for round 2? Keep an eye on the weather this weekend. If you felt that, you'll probably be feeling something from the hurricane on it's way here unless it shifts a bit. I hope it does but it doesn't seem like it wants to. It's big and it it's going to pick up speed. Might be a good time to pick up some bottled water.

There's been some damage reported in DC and NOVA. I believe the National Cathedral suffered some damage, and Culpeper has been evacuated.

Yes I knew that, but I was really commenting on the fact that PEOPLE were not injuried! The damage in Louisa/Mineral was worse than the DC area not sure if your aware of that since I only really saw the local news cover the damage there.

Yes, thank God no one was seriously injured! You are correct damage was quite minimal, but there was some damage. I forgot to add that they think the Washington Monument may have been damaged as well.
