I've been lamenting how expensive ground beef has been lately. It really has been shocking- boneless chicken breast has been a lot cheaper! So needless to say, we haven't been eating hamburger. Well, last night at Aldi's, they had these 5 pound packs with a sell by date of today at 1/2 off! So, originally, they were $12+ for the package, but I got them for $6! So I paid only $1.19 per pound! I bought two packs and immediately went home and made meatballs out of one pack and cooked up the other pack to have for tacos, chili, etc. I got 10 meals out of both packs! Wish I had bought a couple more but just no room in the fridge!

How is the meat at Aldi? I have always been afraid to try it. And in my store it seems nobody is buying it.
great buy!

I've always found their ground beef to be very good. What I especially like is that it's got that airtight seal over the plastic container so it seems to stay fresher longer than ground beef in just a plastic wrap. As for their other fresh meats, I haven't tried much. I do remember their corned beef was bad, however. Very, very fatty. Wouldn't buy it again.

Good deal! I have only bought hamburger a few times.. had no problems. But, we do buy the pork chops! They are great.

ok so I'll let my crazy flag show- I have not tried the ground beef for fear of Mad Cow. I wasn't sure where the meat was coming from.

I know..........

I agree with this post 100%.

not crazy - everyone is entitled to their own opinion and to do what they are comfortable with. I have not head of any problems from Aldi's, so I am comfortable cooking it - as long as no red!

I was actually just at aldis yesterday and purchased chicken wings for the 1st time. The deal was way to good to pass up. The chicken wings were dated for 7/30, and were priced at $6.03, but had a $5 off sticker on them, so I only paid $1.03 for a whole pack of chicken wings! =) Aldis is my new favorite store for meat lol

For those that are nervous, longtime Aldi's shopper here, and while I prefer to get my meat from a local butcher, I do buy meat at Aldi's too. I often get the hamburger, and it's fine. We just had some Aldi burgers last night on the grill. I've also gotten their pork chops, pork tenderloin, and thin cut sirloin steaks, all were good. I also often buy their frozen chicken breasts or thighs and shrimp.

I have bought both the boneless chicken (frozen) and ground beef from Aldi's. I wasn't happy with either but I am REALLY picky about meat. They do have lots of great other stuff.

Good to know! Glad to read this.

We are on the last few (okay 15ish lbs) of the ground beef from the meat I bought from a local farm (1/4 cow)..

Will have to check Aldis

why would Aldi beef have 'mad cow' vs. the grocery store? unless you buy veg. feed only, preferably free range, organic care no steroids or hormone beef(best bet 100% organic free range) it all has a chance of this..... which I do,at times....but frequently better prices get me and we buy 'regular' beef....another way to cut the risk is to buy from a local butcher that grinds their own beef,in store,in small batches. other than that,it's all pretty much the same for risk.
I find Aldi beef to be quite good in that category, love the low fat stuff!

Yes I buy my ground meat from a grass fed local guy. So that's why I was nervous about Aldi-I love lots of stuff from Aldi- but meat not yet. I assume that they get their meat locally?

I believe food regulations in this country require them to list the country of origin on food products. I know all the stores around here do. I'm careful about the source of the meat I buy, not so much because of mad cow, but because of the iffy regulations in some countries.

Great deal! I buy most of my meat at Aldi's. we tend to do the ground turkey as opposed to beef and recently found turkey italian sausage for $2.99 a package! We thoroughly enjoyed it! I also buy the frozen chicken breast, tenders, shrimp, pork tenderloin, marinated turkey breast and have tried the fresh pork chops as well. We find they are all good.

However, I hardly ever buy produce there as it tends to spoil quickly.

Look up "amonia beef" and "pink slime beef" and you will see what they use in most fast food burger ground beef and unfortunately grocery store ground beef.

This is only meant to educate you, as I was not aware of this 6 months ago and wish I knew sooner.
