Just came back from Disney, stayed at AKL for the second time love it!!! Anyway we got caught up in the moment and joined the DVC hope it is the right thing have two little ones just want some advice.

Wecome Home! We purchased in 1992 and have been very happy with our membership. Some time would be to plan your trips as early as possible, so you have a better chance of getting the accomodation size and resort you desire. If possible, it is always a good idea to book you home resort during the 11/7 month exclusive window, again this helps you to get your desired room size.

Relax, if you are comfortably able to afford the payments and dues, it will save you money in the long run, assuming you will be returning to WDW for many years to come.

H ithank you for the advice how many points are a good number we did 180

Welcome Home!

We don't have our own little ones, we hope to bring grandchildren and their families, so we have more points 400. I'm sure that you looked at all things carefully. It was hard for us to pick a beginning number as well. Many of us have add-ons, we began with 200.

Bobbi :flower1:

as a long timer too the one thing you'll find is that you'll never have enough points...........trust me..........it always happens

I agree with Bongo99. We started with 230 points 8 years ago at OKW, and a year later added another 150 also at OKW. We feel the 380 is the right number for us now. I must say though, if DVC opened in Hawaii, I might have to add on!

DVC is one of the best things we ever did to "prepay" a vacation. We are near retirement, and usually go to Disney a couple times a year now. Before we bought, we were going every other year. That pattern changes when you find out how nice a 1,2 or 3 bedroom villa is!

Stop all that nonsense....

I keep telling my wife that it can't get better than studio....

I don't think she's picking up what I'm laying down. We've stayed in one bedroom several times and toured Grand Villa's, I can't seem to sell her on my program.

The number of trips, season and accomodations determine how many points you will use. We don't have nearly as many points as do some here, but it sounds like you bought enough to get started with the flexibility of going once a year depending on when and where you stay. Hey, you can always buy more if you find that you need them. Welcome Home.

Thank you for all the replies just got a little nervous. I wonder can you buy resale points to make up the difference if you need from the other sites? I learn more by other people that is why I am asking

I'm not sure I understand your question. If you are asking about staying at places other than your home resort, you can always reserve those at 7 months out. If you are saying you need more points than you have in any given year, then you can borrow from the next year's points or rent from another owner. If you mean you want two resorts, then yes, you can buy a resale contract from someone for any of the sold out resorts.

I just saw that they have resale points on the web site so I thought you can add to your existing points so I thought that if you had a certain amount of points then you can add by buying someone elses who wants to get rid of them so then you might get those for a little less I dont know did even get the package yet got our pin # so I just wanted to educate myself first

No, it's just that you would not report your own thread as being bad. It's just that if you see something that does not meet teh DIS rules (people not playing nice with others or saying not-so-magical things), you can report them to a mod and they will take care of it.

FYI - There are some great "sticky" threads at teh top of this board with a lot of great information. You may want to check them out. You will find lots of great people here with lots of good info for you.

Welcome home!
