Due to superstorm Sandy, DH & I changed our flight. We were scheduled to fly into Orlando and had a good rental rate from Alamo. When we moved up our flight, we had to fly into Tampa. When I tried to change our rental car for pick-up in Tampa, our rate nearly doubled. I called 1-800 and spoke to a representative who said there was nothing she could do but suggested I call Tampa directly. When I called Tampa, the man who answered the phone "went to get a pen" and never returned, leaving me on hold for 1/2 hr. We left for the airport.
At Tampa, the man at the counter, who sounded much like the guy who went for the pen, chided me for canceling my Orlando ressie because he could have done a one-day rental Tampa to Orlando for much less. But since I am not someone to hold onto more than one ressie, there was nothing he could do, except try to sell me an upgrade for $48. I declined and when I went to get our car, I learned that there never any cars in our original size and was given a free upgrade.
I sent a complaint to Alamo and asked for an adjustment of the rate, that is, my original rate plus one day rental. Representative agreed and actually waived cost of one day rental, giving me my original rate.
I am happy with this adjustment and will only use Alamo or National (if their rates ever come down) in the future. Without this adjustment, they would have lost me as a client and this would be a much different thread.
