I just received my 7 day tickets from ticketmania and was very surprised to see that they were the paper kind. When did they go back to paper? I loved the credit card type. I'll have these tickets for years, two days here and there, so I am worried about them deteriorating. Any chance I could trade them in for the credit card type at the park?

I am pretty sure ALL the tickets you buy from brokers are "paper" The only time I have gotten "credit card" type was when it was on the room key.

I have a "paper" AP. Never had any problems with it.

They've been paper for a few years now - you can probably have it put on your room key when you get down there if you're so inclined. The only problem I had with my paper AP (purchased last April) is that somehow it became demagnetized so they issued me a new one in February.

:offtopic: This is a little off the subject, but where did you order your tickets from? My fiancee and I are going down in a few months with his daughter and we're only going to the parks for a few (prob 2) days Anyway, alll the tickets that I have seen in the DisStore or online are for paper cards for 3 day visits. Can you get 2 day or will I have to purchase them at the gate when i get there?
Thanks!

I would try Disneys website.

We has the paper tickets for our trip last Jan. I had intended to transfer them to our room keys but three CMs at the CR couldn't figure out how to do that so we ended up using the paper. It was somewhat inconvenient having to keep track of tickets and cards for charging but, in the big scheme of things, not a big deal.

They used to have problems transferring tickets to room keys. When Disney switched to the Magic Your Way ticketing system, they made sure the resort CMs were trained to do it. So it shouldn't be a problem at all. (With the exception of having to wait in line to check in, then wait again at the resort concierge desk)

TSM is right. YOu can buy 2 day tickets direct from Disney. Either by calling 407-WDISNEY, or visiting www.disneyworld.com.

Actually they are not paper... they are an incredibly durable material called tyvek. They are actually quit hard to tear and last quit long. I have an ap and go many times a year and I have never ever had to replace one. When we took the kttk tour in Mk the guide actually said they replace more of the platic ones.

We ordered last May direct from Disney's website, and got the credit card type. I don't know if it makes a difference that we were staying onsite?

We stayed on-site twice last summer and I ordered tickets twice directly from WDW and they were "paper" tickets. My AP is paper too.

Paper...it's the new plastic! :thumbsup2

The "paper" tickets never went away. In certain places and circumstances, plastic cards are now used as a ticket medium, but not in all.

Tickets bought from the Disney Store are a thin plastic card, rather like a WalMart gift card, but a little thinner.

Tickets bought at WDW ticket windows and resorts are tyvec (paper), but they can be coded onto your Key to the World (KTTW, the room key) card, which is a thick plastic card, like a credit card or bank card.

If you buy a package that includes tickets, the tickets are automatically encoded onto your KTTW card, which is thick plastic.

Tickets bought from brokers like Ticketmania, Maple Leaf, etc., are tyvec. However, is is generally possible now to have those tickets coded onto your KTTW card, too (it wasn not always so).

The tyvec tickets are just as durable as the plastic tickets. In fact, they are better in some ways, because plastic can build a static charge from rubbing in a pocket or wallet that can demagnetize the magnetic strip, and plastic cards can crack if sat upon, while the tyvec tickets don't crack and build up far less static from friction than plastic.

I have also seen the ink used to print on a KTTW card scratch off, while the ink used to print on the tyvec tickets will not. This might contribute to the longevity of APs, which are always paper no matter where you buy them (only AP vouchers bought from mail order or Disney Stores are plastic, the actual passes are tyvec).
