Just got home - Strong Opinion on Room Requests at AKV

Hello all -

Just returned from a great trip. But, I do have one disappointment related to our room that I had to share so hopefully you all don't get the same situation.

We paid (DVC rented points) for a Savannah 1-Bedroom at Kidani. We were given a 5th floor room, facing the Sunset Savannah. WE HAD A VIEW OF THE TREE TOPS.

By all means, do whatever you can to get a 2nd or 3rd floor view. From our Balcony, we saw 1 giraffe, and 0 Zebras. The Ostrich's and Cattle came our way every now and then, but that's about it. The problem is they had to get past all the trees and into the open area for us to see anything.

If you have a 2nd floor room, you can see UNDER the trees, and have a view of the whole Savannah. The views from the lobby are amazing, but not from the 5th floor in our area.

Good luck!

When you have moving animals your views can be hit or miss and you are correct the trees can block some views. Another issue is that the feeders used to put the animals on display are moved from time to time to balance out the wear on the savanna. You can get a room with a great view this time and the same room next year may have a not so great view.

The worst view rooms at AKV are the club level concierge rooms, either a view of the resort roof towards the pool or a dead end savanna.

What I'm saying is I think your likelihood of having a great view is FAR, FAR greater if you are on the 2nd or 3rd floor.

Understood, but for others reading even a 2nd or 3rd floor room doesn't guarantee constant views of your favorite animal.

I thought all the DVc rooms were 5th and 6th floor at Jambo. I don't think 2nd or 3rd is an option on points. Maybe try ?Kidani next time

I was pretty sure of the same.

Also, everyone should be very aware that particularly with DVC (as opposed to the resorts), requests are simply that, requests. Some resorts do a better job meeting requests than other resorts, some people seem to have better luck than other people (my own luck with requests is LOUSY), and at some resorts there are simply far more requests for certain room locations and they can't all be met. DVC is almost always pretty close to 100% occupied, which means someone is going to get a lousy view.

OP was at Kidani, maybe my post about club level made it seem like they were at Jambo sorry.

I'd agree, my best animal viewing stay was when we were on the 2nd floor. Plus you're closer to their level when they come walking over.

Requests are never guaranteed so even if you ask for a certain floor, you might get it and you might not.

We always stay at Jambo, 5th floor had no real animals the first visit, and had a wonderful view for the second visit with the grandkids the second visit....luck of the draw...
