We drove down so our daughter could see her grandma for a couple days before Disney and while there (G-ma's) our vehicle was totalled in a wreck. BEFORE YOU DRIVE DOWN MAKE SURE YOUR INSURANCE POLICY PROVIDES A RENTAL VEHICLE IN CASE OF ACCIDENT. Ours didn't and this caused us much misery in the past week. We ended up flying home and having to pay extra for baggage because we didn't originally pack to fly and ended up having to remove ALL our personal items from the vehicle and still try to keep them with us and make sure they got home with us. Wifey's glasses broke in the wreck and her eyes were black blue and purple the whole time at Mouseland, so our pictures are pretty much ruined, not to mention she could not see the whole time in the parks. We had to arrange for a private transport to get us and our things to WDW since we were without a vehicle. Only at the end of the week did the other drivers insurance offer us a car but it was too late by then as we had already booked a flight home, and it would cost less than a rental car as well.

Bottom line: Batteries, rain panchos, snacks, cameras, film-whatever- are all nice to have covered on the checklist but if driving - double check your policy for emergency vehicle rental. If you are in a wreck on a vacation the last thing you want to worry about is a vehicle.

The whole time in the parks folks would look at my wife's badly bruised face and look at me as if I'm a wifebeater. I felt terrible and we spent so much time feeling like we had to explain to folks what happened. I got a lot of dirty looks from folks unless they were enlightened as to what really happened.

Once in the parks we really tried to have a good time but the stress of the accident and loose ends and details were over our heads all week. Everyone there was wonderful for the most part but still, I believe the accident wrecked the vacation and took a lot of the "care-free" -ness out of it.

Our 5 yr old daughter handled it all like a trooper, bless her heart. And, we are now home safe and sound at least.

How horrible. I am so sorry this happened to you. But it sounds as if no one was seriously hurt and that is what matters most. I hope everything works out for you and that you can plan another trip to Disney and that it will be a more magical experience for you.

That is horrible.:scared1: Sounds like no one was hurt thanks God. Hope you settle everything involving this accident and you can put it to the side and have a happy holiday :)

My heart pours out to you and your family! What a horrible way to start a vacation and I hope none of you were hurt more than bruises (which is so hard to imagine for your wife). You didn't mention if you or your daughter were hurt as well - I hope not! Sounds like you have one brave little girl. Hope you get this all settled with the insurance companies and have a blessed holiday!

I agree with checking with your insurance carrier regarding rental cars. I always choose that feature but found out that on my policy, it's "rental reimbursement" so I have to fork out the money first (which is costly and I probably wouldn't have the extra funds for).

Please everyone - look into your policies even if you are not traveling on vacation! Add car rental insurance on your policy and ask if it's rental reimbursement or if you have access to a rental right away. An accident can happen close to home and being without a car (especially so far from home) can turn into a nightmare.
