We are headed to HH tomorrow for a Sunday check-in. This is our fourth year going at this time. I just received a fax with the activities. They only have the schedule through Wednesday. I have to say that it is very noticable that they no longer have a naturalist. The only thing listed during this whole time that is a "nature led" activity is something called Alligator Adventures ($22 A, $18 C). Yes, they do have the kayaking and dolphin trips, but we have always enjoyed Brian and Christopher leading their activities. Also, we are a family of 5, and the nature things that are still there is quite expensive for us, we usually do just one a trip.

They do list the Shrimp Boil on Tuesday evening at the Beach House. This is something we would consider since we have never done it. Has anyone done this and what did they think. Besides shrimp, what else do they serve.

We also unfortunately had our A Private Affair canceled, and for Sunday through Thursday they do not have listed any Chef Gordon food event. I hope they might have one on Thursday.

Have a great time on your trip to HH. I am dissapointed about the lack of some natural activities for the kids and families. We are also a family of 5 and the activities can get quite expensive! Are there any wine tastings or food demos by Chef Gordon on the activity sheet? I am hoping there will be one when we are down there from 4/28 - 5/4. Have a safe and wonderful trip to my "Happy Place" :cool1:

Wow, that's really disappointing! It's too bad someone else there couldn't do a few of the things, at least til they get a replacement. We were there a couple weeks before Christopher left, and in checking the Activities list from that week, he led about a dozen activities. The Alligator Adventures wasn't led by him (it was offered our week, too). They bused you to a spot in Sea Pines resort, where you'd board a boat and take a tour led by a local guide.

We were there over Easter and I was a bit disappointed that there were no "naturalist" acitivies offered. We still had a great time and found plenty to do, but we would have participated in those activities had they been offered.

We went to the shrimp boil and had a great time. I was looking for my menu(I know I saved it somewhere!) but I can't seem to find it. I'll do my best from memory:

Peel-n-eat shrimp
pork tenderloin
mac and cheese(supposed to be for the kiddies but I had seconds!)
chicken tenders
corn bread
gumbo (?) - some mixture of sausage, shrimp, maybe crab?, served over rice. It was spicy and very good!
potatoes
lemonade & ice tea
cheesecake

B'Lou Crabbe also played the fiddle and told stories for entertainment. I thought the evening was well worth. One suggestion: spray yourself with bug spray before you go; the no-see-ums were really bad!

Mouseclick1,
We were there also, and I think that you got everything in your list.

VMS,
It sounds like they didn't fax you the back page of the activities. I know that it was on both sides. There might be something listed with Chef Gordon on the other side.

Have a good time,

Thanks for the information on the shrimp boil. It sounds good. I know the activities list is printed on both sides, my husband did ask them about this after we received it, but she claimed they only have it scheduled through Wednesday. I thought that was odd. I am hoping for a Chef Gorden event on Thursday -- we leave on Friday.

I think Disney is kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place on the issue of a new naturalist...

They are definitely looking for one. It's just that they have to find the "right" person! A good naturalist is a little more diffiicult to come by than some other positions might be, Then, of course, since it's Disney, the person has to have a Disney "fit". I'm sure that none of us would be happy if they hired someone who wasn't qualified, or who wasn't good with kids, or who hadn't been touched with pixie dust in some way! :wizard:

Be patient -- and maybe use the time to explore some things on HHI that are NOT offered through the resort. There's another thread going on right now about the Coastal Discovery Museum and some of the things it has to offer.

We just returned home yesterday and we spent significantly more time away from the resort than we usually do. There are all kinds of things close by; Bluffton and Beaufort are both neat places to visit and can easily be visited in only a part of the day.

BTW, Chef Gordon had a "Creative Beginnings" on the activity schedule for Monday night of this week. We had gone to Charleston that day to take our daughter back to school and raced home to be there for the 5:30 start. We got back to the villa to find a message that the program had been cancelled; we were the only ones to have signed up for it!! Moral of the story: if we want more programs from Gordon, they will have to be well-attended. Actually, Gordon was surprised himself; he said that the last few times he's done these programs, he has had to squeeze in extra people because they've been so popular! Go figure!!! ;)

I found my menu! I left out corn on the cob. My menu also includes smoked sausage, though I don't remember if that was separate or just part of the rice dish. I also forgot to include they had face painting going on for kids.
