Okay gang, it looks like the holiday dates for 2006 have just opened up or they will be shortly. I have a message on my machine from DCL in regards to my inventory request for a mid-ship category 3. They have reserved stateroom 8034 for us and the sailing is indeed a 10 night leaving December 16th. I haven't called them back yet, I need a few minutes to prepare for the sticker shock. I'll update when they give me that grand total :faint:

I just got off the phone with DCL and my palms are a little sweaty. I hope it won't affect my typing too much. First I'll give you the itinerary,

12/16/06 - Depart Port Canaveral
12/17/06 - Key West
12/18/06 - Sea
12/19/06 - Sea
12/20/06 - St. Martin
12/21/06 - St. Lucia
12/22/06 - Antigua
12/23/06 - St. Thomas
12/24/06 - Sea
12/25/06 - Castaway Cay
12/26/06 - Port Canaveral

The quote I got was for a category 3, with 5 people (3 adults, 2 kids) $16,440.65 which includes transfers and travel protection plan. The deposit of $3500 is due on October 14th. I just keep telling myself that we have a little over 2 years to pay it off.

Sounds like a great cruise. Out of our price range, I will have to just enjoy the trip reports! Have fun planning! It is going to be wonderful!

Wow that is sticker shock.... No way my DH would ever go for that... we could go for 5 cruises in an SPR for my family of 4 for that money.

Have a great time!!

Wow glad you got the cabin you wanted.
16 grand plus!!!!
You just have to say it really quickly.
NO I tried that and still I started getting heart palpitations :)

If you can afford it though good for you!!!

Good luck :)

Cheers,
Grumbo

What a great itinerary! Hmmm, do I dare even think about booking another cruise...my DH just might jump ship!

Happy Saving!:earseek: And, Happy Sailing!:boat:

That sounds like a awesome cruise, but wow oh wow...did you pass out from the sticker shock?

Do you have room for a stowaway??:wave2:

Well, I haven't sent in the deposit yet, but I was planning on about $12,000 for a 7 day Christmas cruise, so it is still within my budget. The kids were really hoping for a Western itinerary though and 10 days sounds like a really long time. Especially when our only previous experience was 3 nights on the Wonder.

I'm kind of looking at it as our last big family vacation. Our oldest DD will be graduating from college that year and who knows how many more times we'll all be together. Although I guess if DH and I are paying for the vacations, she'll tag along to as many as she possibly can ;)

Now we'll just wait and see if DH falls off his chair when I tell him the amount.

Hey Tammi!

Congratulations! That's wonderful, or should I say Magical ;)

I'm wondering when you waitlisted so the rest of us could see roughly where we are in line??

Thanks!

I had faxed in my request to DCL inventory control back in June, 2004.

I have a hold on my reservation right now until 10/14 when the deposit is due. I'm guessing that anyone waitlisted for a cat 3 on this particular cruise, wouldn't hear back any sooner than the 15th.

Well, I fell off my chair, if that counts. :earseek:

It sounds amazing, and a great way to celebrate your daughter's last year in college.

You can't take it with you, so it might as well be magical while we can all enjoy it! :teeth:

Wow- I saw your post and called DCL immediately. I'd love to go on this cruise. I'm on hold because the DCL rep hadn't even heard of this cruise yet. She's checking with a supervisor! She asked how I knew about it so soon - I said "My DIS friends, of course"! She laughed....

Anyway, they're only working on the suite requests right now. General reservations haven't been opened yet.

$16,000 = $12,000 ???

Um, ok. Sounds like the same math my wife uses when trying to tell me we can add a few days on to our next WDW trip AND upgrade from a moderate to deluxe resort for "not much more."

:D :D :D

That was for a 7 day cruise -- this one is a 10. It's about $267 per person per day for the extra three days. That's a bargain!

I called immediately as well as we are waiting to hear if we got a Cat. 2 for our back-to-back cruises. CM told me that (1) they're still working on suite requests; and (2) they'll be opening up general holiday bookings tomorrow.

And that proves my point! :p

(I look at it from an absolute dollar point of view. I take a budget, then I get whatever I can for the budget - though I understand some may have the freedom/flexibility to do it by day, etc.)

That's because you're a man! :p

When women buy shoes, for example, they have to think about how many times they will wear the shoes, and then divide the total price by the number of wearings. In the case of a 7 day versus a 10 day cruise, she's actualy SAVING money because the 7 day would cost $343 per person per day, but the 10 day is only $320 per person per day.

Marcy

Sam forget it!!! I've tried to "discuss" this mindset with my wife and you'll never win:rolleyes: Its a losing battle.
Just tell your wife 1/2 of what you are going to spend, and then when it gets doubled your wife thinks she has pulled a fast one, and you're within your budget :)
Sounds good but rarely works for me. :hyper:

Cheers,
Grumbo

Guilty as charged! This kind of new math is the reason my wife drives a Suburban and not a minivan, why our next vacation is a 7 day DCL cruise and not a long weekend getaway (like I planned), and why I don't have a Corvette or Porsche!

Sam

LOL. :D (And I'm glad you didn't take offense and see that this is all in good fun.)

I'm the breadwinner in the family -- my dh stays home with the kids -- and I still do chick justification math.
