Why did I buy BLT resale when I could've bought SSR and saved some $$?

I just was able to book BWV standard and BLT standard during Easter week (3/26-4/2). We have two contracts so that's why I'm doing a split-stay (one contract used to book BWV and one for BLT).

I was surprised these standard view rooms are available 6 months away from our trip. I paid a premium for BLT so I could be sure to book it. This trip was kind of an add-on so that's why we're booking it at 6 months. But if I could always get BLT or BWV standard at 6 months why would I buy BLT and pay so much more than SSR?

So is Easter just not a big demand time for DVC?

We stayed at BWV before but never BLT so I'm looking forward to it. Especially since we have to be at MK at 6:30AM, that BLT closeness and able-to-walkness will be great for those early mornings. 10 level crowd days are not cool, but with 7AM EMH you can get a lot done before the masses arrive at 10:30.

Anyway, sorry for the rambling post, but I guess my point is this: If BLT std and BWV std are available at 6 months for a 10 level crowd week then why buy the expensive resorts for the 11 month booking window? Why not just buy SSR?

Easter is not that big of a demand period for DVC but will be very busy for Disney cash resorts. I am not saying that DVC members don't book Easter, but some school systems do not use Easter as their spring breaks and many members avoid spring break because of the crowds.

Our anniversary is in early April and we have decided we will not be going to WDW when Easter overlaps our anniversary due to the crowd levels.

We bought SSR many years ago and have never stayed there (but plan to next year to experience Disney Springs additions)

Easter is basically as busy and as (points) expensive as Christmas .... Without any of the special decorations or fireworks of Christmas / NYE.

You are booking 1BR standard, and I think most of the standard complaints are from the studio and 2BR bookers.

But, honestly I'm surprised you pulled off both standard at 6mo. I thought this year's earlier Easter would make it more popular than average.

I would count this year as a blessing, and then you can more peacefully book your standards at 11mo.

I think you are right about 1BR as I know they are the least popular category. One of the reasons I went with BLT instead of SSR is that I assume more DVCs will be built and there will be more DVC members, and that the monorail resorts will always be popular, so with more members trying to book popular monorail resorts at 7 months it may be impossible to do that in ten or twenty years.

But still, I was surprised I was able to get std for both (pleasantly surprised).

I tried to get BCV but it was not available for a couple of days during our trip. So it's not like all the resorts have availability, but I know BLT std and BWV std are relatively popular so that's why I posted this. I thought it was interesting they were available.

Easter week is actually a fairly low DVC demand time, although it is otherwise an extremely crowded time of year at WDW. Also, that you were looking for a 1BR at BWV helped significantly since the 1BRs are always the last to fill; studios and 2BRs are usually gone by 7 months out much of the year. As to BLT, there were actually three nights shown as full for the standard 1BR for the time you want at 7 months out, so you may have been one the lucky ones who got a reservation soon after one or more cancellations occurred and before those cancellations went to the waitlist.

Too high for us. Too crowded as well. The same reason my daughter got 4th of July week last year only a few months out. We are point misers and avoid high point weeks. Congratulations.

If you could do it all year long I'd agree with your conclusion but the home resort advantage appears to be necessary for certain times of the year especially for the more popular rooms (studio/2BR). If you had been trying for your same bookings for a room in the fall (high demand DVC season) you probably would have had dramatically different results. At 8 months out for our home resort this year (BWV) everything was booked for Oct except a few random nights here and there-not just standard but all 3 categories. If you typically don't travel from late Sept-early Jan when DVC is at peak demand and you always book a 1BR then you may have continued success like this. Enjoy your trip :)

On the other hand, we are going the end of August next year. I waited two days into the booking window - dates not being my strong point, and snagged the last BWV GV for my dates. End of August is not a busy time of year (although BW GV do go quickly). Its possible that at seven months out something will free up when someone moves their GV reservation to a treehouse or something - or that at seven months I'd be able to get a GV somewhere else - but the one I wanted disappeared at eleven months.
